I insisted on washing up after dinner, I mean, it's best to make a good impression before I fuck it all up, right? Josh helped. his parents announced they where going to bed and as they reached the stairs he immediately blew foam into my face.
"Son of a biscuit, you're getting it now!!" He ran round the table with a grin as I chased him with a handful of bubbles in a throwing position.

"Joshua Washington get your arse over here right now!" He chuckled and stuck his tongue out.

I dived under the table with barely a palm full o bubbles left and grabbed his ankle before throwing bubbles in his face knocking him from his crouched position.

"Mwa!" I kissed his cheek and skipped off in victorious.

Me and Josh had separate rooms, his parents almost insisted. After watching a movie downstairs, Josh went needy and when I went to get a drink he would pause the TV and follow me without letting me go.

I'm not complaining.

Its nice knowing you're loved.

He pulled me onto his lap and nuzzled into my neck like a sleepy puppy.

"You okay?" I asked Kissing his temple. He nodded and kissed my neck.

The end of the movie came, to be honest I was a tad jumpy after horror films but I don't admit it. Josh dropped his phone making my muscles twitch in response and my head to jerk towards the direction of the sound.
"Woah, babe you look like a cat caught in the headlights!" Josh laughed wrapping an arm around my waist. He kissed my forehead before leaving towards his room, which was next to mine. We did that cheesy thing couples did in Victorian times when their husbands would leave for war and they held hands till they couldn't stretch any further. It was cute, and his parents where watching which I didn't know. His mother laughed and rested her head against his fathers shoulder.
"I think she's good for him." He mumbled in agreement.

God knows what time it was, but my wild imagination was... Well... Running wild, I think it was around 1:00 am and I was thinking about a solution to calming my nerves to help me sleep, like how the nerve shock would travel from the stimulus to the receptor to the motor neurone... Or was it a different neurone...?

I thought like this for hours until I heard walking down the old hallway. This was another kind of scared I hated, yet loved at the same time. the kind when you would be powerless, letting your imagination fill in what horrors laid ahead and just clutch the covers trying not to breathe.

"Hey, (Y/N), I'm sorry to wake you-" Josh walked in, his hair mused and sticking up on all sides.

"Fuck, Josh you scared the shit out of me!!" I whispered back and he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
"J-just checking up on you..." He mumbled and I laughed.

"C'mere Josh." He smiled and sat on the edge of his bed.

"C-can I stay with you tonight...?" I frowned momentarily.

"Please, I don't want to be alone tonight. When you're around the visions disappear..." His voice cracked and I pulled his hand so he was laying next to me.

"I too have noticed... That when I'm with you I'm not scared..." He sighed happily and placed an arm around my shoulders.
I was drifting off to sleep when Josh spoke, his voice slightly horse.
"(Y/N)... Are you scared of the dark...?" I thought about it for a while.

"No..." I spoke just above a whisper. "I'm scared of the monsters in the dark." Josh nodded as if to be content with my answer.

"Good night." He mumbled.

"See you on the other side." I whispered, not able to see the slight smile on Josh's face.

I buried my face into the crook o Josh's neck willing sleep to take over my conscious state again.

It didn't happen.

I opened my eyes to see Josh's sleeping form, so happy and peaceful... The corners of his mouth would tug up into a quick smile as he dreamt of whatever wanders lay in his brain.

After watching his face, fascinated by his features I stood up slowly so I wouldn't wake him and kissed his forehead gently.

I ran a hand through my hair and yawned reaching the bathroom to take a shower. Once inside I rolled my shoulders and hair under the warm water. I heard a grunt from the bedroom and switched the shower off hopping out and towel-drying my hair quickly before running back into the bedroom.

"Hello sleepy-head!" I called and he smiled sleepily rubbing his eyes.

"Mornin, good lookin'." He chuckled slightly at the mass of damp-ish curls on my face.

"You've got an Afro!" I rolled my eyes and shook it up so it looked a bit more controlled.

"I know, but, there's these magical clippy things called 'hair straighteners' which help me through every day life with curly hair. You should try it sometime (!)"

"How magical(!)" he chuckled and stop up stretching.

"What do you want for breakfast?"

"I'll make it."

"N-no... It's okay... I saw your cake last year..." I chuckled and rolled my eyes. I got the measurements and ingredients all wrong so it looked like a bowl of cornflakes been left out overnight.

"Mmmmmm fine, help me than."

"As long as you promise not to set fire to the kitchen." I nodded and crossed my heart before racing him downstairs.

"I'm surprised I pulled this off, you know?" I said between mouthfuls of pancake.

"I'll have you know that I did most of the work, eating everything doesn't help cook it." He stuck his tongue out at me and and laughed covering my face.

"Bro, c'mon! Give me some credit too!"

"Hey, I was wandering if you wanted to go for a walk today?" I raised an eyebrow.

"You mean, somewhere other than the forest?"

"Yeah, y'know, have a road trip!" I smiled at the thought and his face brightened when I nodded enthusiastically.

"Where about are we going?"

"There's this cool kinda waste land place where this paper factory used to be, I was thinking we could drive over there and from there we can get a great view of the nearby city, especially at sundown." I loved the idea of this, it was well better than the movies or a date at a restaurant.

"What do you say?"

"I say fuck yeah let's do this!!" He laughed and I smiled so widely that I couldn't see.
