All of a sudden, I heard howling. But this howling wasn't from afar, this howling was a few metres away. And the strange thing about this howling was that it didn't sound like a wolf howling, it sounded like a human. I knew I had to run away far and soon.
I got up and ran through the forest, hoping they weren't there. Whilst running, I heard voices yelling "let's go get her boys!" And many more comments like that. I ran back up the hill again and did crazy turns so they might've lost me.
I kept on running for about ten more minutes up and around the hill. I looked back and they were gone, but I kept on running just to be safe. I was almost running on top of a mountain which I thought was pretty cool. After all I've been through, I realised that I should appreciate things more often.
For the first time in forever, I smiled. I smiled wide whilst running away. For some reason, at this moment, I knew that I was safe. I looked behind me, but still continued to run, luckily, they were gone. And this time, for good, I just had this feeling that I was safe at last. Nothing could go wrong, nothing at all...
The sunshine brushed across my face. I woke up, this point, it was around 10:30, I could tell by where the sun was in the sky. I looked around me, and realised that I must've fallen off a cliff during the night. But the weirdest thing was, was that I was in absolutely no pain.
I used my arms to push me off of the ground, it was so weird because I felt so light. I looked down at my grazed knees, but they were no longer grazed. I felt extremely confused and worried for what I should've done next, but at the same time, I was so happy, but I didn't know why.
It felt like all the worries that I once had, were gone. Just when I was starting to walk towards me to try to make it back to the town somehow, I heard I voice softly say my name.
"Jane"
My heart immediately started pounding, but it was almost like a relieved sensation.
"Mom! I missed you so much! How did you find me?" I asked desperately.
But before she said anything, she ran into my arms with a graceful hop she didn't usually have.
"We were always here! When you needed us, we were your guardian angels".
At this point, I was so confused. 'But, isn't my Mom at home with John and the kids?' I thought to myself.
Before I could say anything else, my dead grandma and grandpa ran up and hugged me. Whilst they hugged me, I felt a sensation of warmth all around me.
Then, before I knew it, the three of them were hugging me. Approximately a minute later, old Mrs. Jepson from next door who passed away about two years ago, walked up to us with a huge smile spread across her face.
"Nice to see you sweetie! Long time no see!" She said with a lot of delight.
After she said that, she also joined in for the group hug.
"Mommy?" I said sounding a little worried.
"Yes sweetie?" She said sounding stress free like she used to when I was little.
"I'm confused, are you... Dead?" I asked.
Her smile faded, but a sense of relaxation was still there.
"Yes, but I'm now a spirit" she said sounding happy.
"What happened to you? Was it John?" I said sounding slightly angry but more confused.
She nodded the pulled down her nightgown to where her heart was, and there was a scar of a gunshot.
"I'm so confused, all my wounds are gone..." I said.
"But the wounds that carried a lot of emotion are still scared on your body" she said sounding quite sad.
Then, I lightly brushed my finger tips across my neck where John lightly cut me, it was still there.
'Everybody has been so obvious, these dead people aren't my guardian angels anymore, am I dead?' I asked myself.
"Wait, did I die?" I asked.
Her smile faded once again, whilst she put her head down then nodded.
I felt like somebody was punching into my stomach once again.
I slowly looked behind me, and saw me dead lying on the ground. It was the most horrible feeling, it was so hard to describe. I was bruised will cuts all over my legs. I had these navy blue dark circles under my eyes. My legs were disfigured, I probably broke every single bone.
Tears rolled down my face as I bent over to myself. All my dead family members and friends, bent over beside me and patted my back.
I had so many questions to ask, so many.
At this point, I needed to distract myself...
And turned around to see my grandpa kneeling over and smiling at me.
"I missed you Grandpa!" I said with relief, since I was so distracted, I had no time to notice that he was even there.
"Missed you too kiddo" he said and then hugged me tight, then again, I was surrounded with such warmth.
I then got up and walked towards my Mom.
"Is heaven real?" I asked with hope.
They all laughed and then nodded. This was five years ago, if I were still alive, I would be seventeen. Lola is now six, Stella is almost eleven and Jack is eight. Fortunately, after John killed my mother, he went to jail. The three children were orphans for quite a while, but in the end, they went home to a super loving family. And my dad, well, he's life sentenced in jail. I may not of had the 'best' life whilst I was alive, but, the one I'm living now is incredible. Fortunately, a week later, police officers found my body and buried me right next to my mom and grandparents in a really pretty park near a pond.
