*Corey's POV*

"You've been left alone for a month?" I stammered.

"Yeah, my Dad had an argument with my Mum and he hit her then left. He said he would be back the next day. I need to get back in case he comes back." Alice said, as if everything was totally normal.

She'd been abandoned. No one was coming back.

"Tell me more about your family." I said, trying to stay calm after hearing about her horrific abuse.

"Well... My dad... Shouts. And hits me and my mum. But I've only broken two bones. Dad says that I'm very lucky. I even have a blanket to sleep on... But you have a bed. Are you a millionaire?" Alice asked, wide eyed.

I shook my head. "Alice..." I said, softly. I needed to make up some bullshit to keep her here. No way am I letting her stay there.

It all makes sense now. Her anorexic looking appearance, her tortured eyes, her strange personality. Everything made sense now.

"Your dad told me he wanted you to stay here." I lied.

"Really?" she was like a child, believing everything I said.

"Yeah. So for now, should I get you something to eat?" I smiled.

"What cans do you have?" she asked.

That killed me. Did she only eat canned food her whole life?

"I don't just have canned food. I have anything you've ever dreamed of eating. What do you want to eat?" I smirked, waiting to see her reaction.

"Wow... Really?" Her eyes were wide and starry. "Well, in a book I read they ate something I have always wanted to try..."

I was expecting something really hard to make, but I wanted nothing more than to make her happy and see her face.

"Chocolate." she said shyly.

"Chocolate?" I chuckled. All she wanted was simply chocolate.

"Do you not have it?" she looked a little bit disappointed. "Never mind."

"I do. Of course I do. I'll get some right away." I laughed. "Come with me." I took her hand and I felt her trust sink into my hand and go up my wrist.

I took her into the kitchen and giggled at her face of awe. "Are you rich?" she gasped.

"No, honestly I'm quite poor compared to most people. This is a tiny apartment." I shrugged.

Reaching up into the cupboard, I passed Alice down the chocolate. Her face lit up. "How do I eat it?"

"Just bite it." I laughed.

She ate a little bit and looked at me with a huge grin on her face. "Holy mother of God..."

"Good?" I smiled.

"Amazing."
