*a month later*
After weeks of counseling I finally got back to normal, I guess seeing Zayn kill Calvin kind of pushed me off balance. Nothing has happened this past month, but Zayn and I have been oddly distant. We barely talk anymore. Niall and Hannah broke up due to Hannah wanting to move to New York to pursue her dream job of becoming a designer. They decided a long distance relationship wasn't going to work so they ended it. My twentieth birthday was tomorrow, and I highly doubt Zayn would remember. We haven't talked in days and we live together for Christ's sake.
I was re arranging misplaced books near the register, when Niall walked in. "Hey, what are you going here?" I asked a bit surprised, Niall was never one to read. "I decided to try something new." He replied, giving me a faint smile. He was still trying to get over the break up, they were really close. "Well what kinda books do you like to read?" I asked. He looked at me a bit puzzled. " I have a feeling you'd like the books over there by the humor section." I smiled, pointing to a row of books near the windows of the shop. "Thanks." He smiled, and walked towards where I was pointing. Susie came out of the storage room with a new stack of books. "The books that were ordered just got delivered, can you help me stack em?" She asked with a friendly smile, as I nodded in reply.
I finally got home, Zayn was on the couch watching TV, and I walked straight past him into the bedroom. I changed into something more comfortable and washed my face, putting my hair in a high pony tail. I walked into the living room and took a seat next to Zayn. "Happy Birthday Jay." He smiled, I looked at him with disappointment in my eyes, as he looked at me confused. It's not the fact that he forgot the exact date but the fact that all I got was a "Happy Birthday" he didn't even greet me or kiss me when I walked in. "What's wrong?" He asked. I gave him a fake smile. "Nothing, thanks babe." I said, I wasn't planning on throwing a party tomorrow and it doesn't really matter if he thinks my birthday is a day off than my actual birthday. He didn't seem exactly convinced at my response but didn't push it any further. "Zayn?" I finally asked, he looked at me. "Do you ever feel like we're becoming distant?" I asked. "No, why?" He asked, does he even pay attention anymore. "Oh I don't know, ever since that night with-w-with Calvin... You've been acting kind of quiet." I slowly responded. "What do you mean?" He asked. "Zayn we barely even talk anymore, we didn't even greet each other when I came back from work. We don't do anything romantic anymore and you completely forgot the fact that my birthday was tomorrow." I rambled on, unsure if Zayn was even listening. He looked at me for a moment. "I don't know what you mean, we are perfectly fine." He finally responded. I scoffed at his answer. "Fine? You call this fine? You don't even bother giving me a fucking kiss on the day you THOUGHT was my birthday?! You don't bother apologizing either now that I mention it, for fucks sake, do you even love me anymore?!" I said, louder than I should've. "Of course I do. There's just a lot in my mind right now, I don't know. I'm sorry about your birthday, and I promise ill make it up to you. I love you and I'm stupid alright?" He said. "Zayn you know you can tell me anything, I'm your girlfriend." I said, starting to calm a bit as I gently placed my hand on top of his. He looked into my eyes, then looked back on the floor. "Do you know how hard it is going to sleep every night knowing what happened to you, and what almost would've happened if I don't come? If I hadn't let you go talk to him- th-this wouldn't have happened. And the fact that I actually killed someone, the fact that I ended someone's life, even if it was Calvin's, haunts me. It drives my mid crazy. I looked at him with sympathy in my eyes. It kills me to see him like this. I have him a kiss on the lips then locked my eyes with his. "Zayn none of it was your fault, we need to move on. What happened happened. It's over now and we can't spend our time wishing of ways to change the past. I just want you to know you can tell me anything." I said, giving him a genuine smile. He smiled back, kissing my neck, moving his way up to my lips. "I love you Jay, I will make sure nothing like that ever happens to you again. And I'm a stupid idiot for just keeping a distance like that for a while, and I promise ill make it up to you on your birthday." He said with a smile, kissing my hand.
I cleaned the house for a bit, re arranging my clothing and wiping the counters in the kitchen. I threw away the trash and decided to leave the cooking to Zayn. "Can you cook?" I asked exhausted. "You didn't have to clean, I would have done it if you had asked me. Do you like ramen noodles?" He asked, giving me a massage, I nodded in reply. He walked into the kitchen as I checked my phone for any new calls. I had a few texts.
Chelsea- hey, how ya feelin?
I replied with a simple okay and closed my phone. She has been asking me that question every single day since the incident. I looked into the mirror, and saw my terrible reflection. I have been so stressed out, I looked dead. I have been so stressed out lately, everything with my parents was over but now I had even more problems. I was going to have to move out of Zayn's house sooner or later and I simply don't have the money. He had offered me to stay here for as long as I want but I promised my self I would stay there until everything with my parents were over, and they were. I sat on the couch with my laptop on my lap, searching for a nice, affordable home near where I work. I found a couple of apartments that were to my liking, I wrote down the addresses on a piece of paper and left it on the coffee table. "Noodles are ready Babe!" Zayn yelled from the kitchen. I closed my laptop and sat on the dining chair and started to eat. "So, I found a couple of apartments near my work place, do you want to come with me sometime tomorrow or in a few days to get a glimpse of them?" I asked, eating my noodles. "Jay I already told you, you don't have to move, stay here for as long as you'd like." He replied with a smile, his hands holding mine. "The town is having a masquerade ball tomorrow night, and I thought we could go there for your birthday." Zayn offered, it wasn't actually a bad idea. "But Zayn I don't have anything to wear." I replied, I didn't wear gowns. "Don't worry I'll take care of it." He said with a smirk, walking over to me and gently united our lips, I felt the tingles again, as usual.
