Unexpected kindness

It was my second day in Tokyo. Me and Kayla had decided to share a hotel and spend the previous day overcoming the biggest part of our jetlag. And now we finally had the opportunity to start enjoying this trip. But I hadn't told her why I had left the states yet. Talking about it and receiving peoples pity wasn't going to help me.

After some searching on google where we'd go, I had found a small maid café that wasn't very well know. It seemed like the perfect spot to start getting used to the different culture and to practice my now rusty Japanese. And when we arrived we were greeted by a very adorable looking Japanese girl in a maid outfit. She lead us to a table and we ordered some tea. It was after noon after all.
''Did you finally start watching Japanese drama? I recall you only watched anime back when you were 18.'' Yes, back then I only watched anime. And occasionally read manga. But it was a year after that that my love for Jdramas was awakened. I smiled and nodded. ''Yes, I watch them now. I started not too long after you graduated and I left school.'' Our tea arrived and while sipping on it I continued. '' Another friend introduced me, and thanks to that friendship I ended up learning Japanese. We motivated each other and helped each other out so.''
We continued talking about shows we liked and discussed all sorts of things we still wanted to visit. After another hour of talking we had a small moment of silence. Just enjoying this place. But I overheard whispers. I couldn't quite make out what they were saying but it had something to do with that secrecy wouldn't be a problem. I slowly turned my head to take a peak. What I saw was a males back, and black hair. He was talking to one of the maids that were walking around. But when he turned around to walk to a table I saw a pair of enchanting dark brown eyes that I had seen before quite often. I have no idea how I remained so calm because the fangirl in me was going mad. The only one who could hear me mutter under my breath was the girl sitting in front of me, Kayla. ''Mizushima Hiro...''.
I could recognize that face anywhere. I had seen it countless times when me and my friend Shina watched shows together. His face seemed even more beautiful in real life. I downed my tea and while Kayla remained calm and didn't seem to care to much, I got up and walked to the bar. ''I'd like a bottle of sake please.'' With a smile the maid behind the bar got my order ready. ''I'm going to go and shop for a bit okay? Someone I know here invited me, I'll meet you at the hotel for dinner?'' I turned around and nodded towards my friend and turned my attention back to the maid before me. ''Can I sit here as well?'' She nodded while pointing to one of the chairs placed next to me. '' Are you here on vacation?''
That question made a sad smile appear on my face. ''I guess you could say that. I just needed to get away from my life back home. Getting my heart smashed was the last push I needed. I don't even know how long I'm going to stay here.''
I shook my head while sighing slightly. I hadn't talked about it or really thought about it from the moment I walked away from that scene. I hadn't talked to my cheating ex Jason, nor had I taken a moment to process it. I could see a sympathetic smile on her face as she filled a small cup with sake for me. She moved it towards me. ''It's totally out of character but I think you need this. Sounds like all you want to do is escape and forget.'' I took a sip and chuckled slightly. I shook my head again. ''It's okay. I didn't come here to feel bad for myself.'' She gave me a smile and handed me a free slice of pie. People were nice here. Yeah in bars back home they would listen to you but this kindness gave me a sense of happiness. ''So why Japan?'' The female continued. ''I've always love this country, its culture, its language. I've always been fascinated by all of it. I was saving up to come here anyways.'' My mood changed again to a somewhat happy one. '' it's always been my dream to visit Japan, and even though the happenings of last week weren't the best, it made me chase my dream''
In the background I heard a phone ring and Hiro's voice answering it. While I took another sip I saw him leave. '' So do you have any hobbies or such? I mean it may be a nice idea to find a part time job. Not right now but if you decide to stay long''. The female was right. ''Well, I love music and singing. I guess.''  Her eyes lit up and her face showed that she had an idea.'' How about you come do a small show here tomorrow night?'' In her excitement she grabbed my hand with a big smile. Her joy felt contagious and with my own smile I agreed to it.

I went back to my hotel and the rest of the night went by pretty normal. Me and Kayla had dinner and after a few drinks went to bed. Not knowing just exactly what the next day would bring me.
