"okay so... where do you think the scent trail will lead us?" erebus asked.
"i have know idea she didn't really elaborate and with what she told will she tried to deter even my frome searching for her"leo said as he followed the scent trail.
As the team went on the smell of ashes and smoke started to fill their nostrils.
"what is that awful smell?" erebus asked as he covered his nose.
"something's burning"leo said , his voice sounding worried as he ran a little faster
"or was burning " will added in" it smells old like a few weeks old".
"good point" leo said as he slowed down a bit but still followed in the direction of the smell.
Then as they got closer they could hear metal whacking the ground.
"what in the world "leo said as he raced ahead and came to the site of what looked like ground zero of a bomb test there was mangled remains of what looked like some kind of building and scorched earth.
Loud clanging sounds came from inside the rubble.
leo picked threw the rubble until he found the source of the clanging luna trying to move a large metal filing cabinet out of the rubble by flipping it end over end.
"want some help?"leo asked
" yeah , i would , wait why are you guys here?" luna asked.
"you disappeared without telling us, we have crazy scientist that might still be looking for us and i was worried about you"leo said trying to move some of the rubble to clear a path.
"awww, well thanks for worrying about me" luna said as she pushed the cabinet.
"your welcome"leo said as he moved a mangled chair out of the way.
Then jade ran up and picked up the other end of the cabinet and helped luna lift it.
Erebus helped leo chanale out a path for the girls and will ran deeper into the broken down building.
"so what is this place or what was this place"leo asked as they dragged the cabinet a last few feet to the edge of the disaster zone.
"why was this thing so important to get out of there?" Erebus asked.
"well if you let me put this down, then i could tell you" luna struggled to say as she carried the one end of the cabinet.
"ill help you "leo said as he helped luna carefully set down the cabinet on the ground.
"okay so do any of you recognize this area?" luna asked.
"well it wasn't that far from the woods"leo said.
"yes and.."luna said.
"we would have noticed the expl.....its the lab isn't it"leo said.
"yes ,and it actually was a government facility , two stories high and armed to the teeth with guns, weaponized vehicles, and more army equipment than you could imagine. " luna said as she held a key to the first lock on the cabinet.
"Damn, and we did this to it?"leo asked as he looked out at the expanse of rubble
"and on accident"erebus said.
" yeah on accident even though you pressed the button to cause this" luna said as she unlocked the drawers.
"i wonder what this cabinet holds"leo said as he walked over to the cabinet.
"well let's find out" luna said as she finished unlocking the cabinet.
Then she opened the cabinet to reveal hundreds of files.
"were in business."leo whispered.
"yeah , this is going to take a weekend to go through all of this" luna said.
"i say 4 hours tops, have i ever showed you guys "the office""?leo said.
"nope " jade said.
"its an technolgy paradise"leo said as he leafed through the papers"minus the nice temperatures because it doesn't have heat."
"wow i wouldn't want to work there , especially in the winter" jade said as she opened the second drawer.
"before i had a furry parka now i have fur either way it's not too bad"leo laughed as he looked at more of the files
"guys we should lock this thing up hide it and then go find will, he hasnt come back yet" luna said.
"sounds good i can pick it up with the truck some time but we should just hide it for now, i bet there is even more things that survived the devastation if this was a military base there is probably a lot more fire and blast proof stuff here"leo said as he put the file he was looking at back in its correct place and closed the drawer"although i wonder where Will is also".
"yeah he's been in there for a long time" Erebus added in.
"i wonder what he's doing"leo said as he picked his way threw the mangled scraps of building in the direction until he disappeared right in front of them.
"wait what"erebus said as he walked the same path leo did until he came upon a hole in the ground and heard scratching.
"leo is that you?"erebus called into the hole
"ya you should see this there seem to be tunnels and secret passages down here"leo called up from the pit.
"say no more " luna yelled as she jumped down and fell on a pile of scrap metal.
"i meant carefully"leo said as he raced over to the pile and helped luna up.
"i was being careful , do you see blood ?" luna asked.
"you've got a point"leo said as he returned to a wall in the tunnel and contunded scratching at part of it.
"leo what are you scratching at?"luna asked.
"well if you look closes you can see that there is a seam that runs in a rectangle and looks like a door but it is caked in dirt and rust i'm just trying to get it free
"allow me then" luna said as she walked up to the plate , turned her tail to it , then kicked it open with her back legs.
the door groaned and then flew open and let out a hiss of air
"i wonder why they would have airlock doors?"leo said to himself as he took a hesitant step into the space that lay ahead in darkness.
"i don't know , but whatever it's for , it must be important" luna said as she walked in like she was at a water park.
"i've got this"leo said as he felt around the edge of the door and felt a little pack of something he tore open the pack and out fell glow sticks"standard military issue"leo said as he broke the stick and cast an eerie blue glow over the space.
"well that explained why it sounds like this room was big"leo said as he took a step over to the guardrail that looked down apon a few banks of cubicles and beyond that what looked like the remains of a large storage room.
When leo reached the storage room, luna was sitting there ears perked down.
"what's the matter?"leo asked as he sat down in front of luna.
Luna jumped , "n-nothing l-lets just get out of here" luna said.
"ya lets go will is probably up top looking for us let's get out of here"leo said
But then luna ran back in and grabbed something off the wall and put it into a large bag.
