Logan's mother finally called us back into the kitchen after Logan and I argued in the back room the entire time we waited. I'd punch him, and he would pinch me. I'd poke him and he would lightly slap my leg. I'd tell him I hate him, he'd tell me knows.

We walked out of the room together and my dad was sitting at the table with, who I assumed to be, Logan's father. Logan looked exactly like his father, except a lot younger. His father was just as handsome as Logan. His mother was also gorgeous, so he has great genetics.

I took a seat across from my mom hoping that Logan would sit near his family. He didn't, of course. Instead, he plopped in the seat right next to me. I sent a death glare as he smiled sweetly at me.

"Would you like anything to drink, Marie?" Logan kindly asked. I heard an 'oooh' and glanced at my mom who was impressed by Logan's manners. HE'S LITERALLY THE DEVIL, I screamed in my head.

"I'll just take a sweet tea." I replied. Logan stood from his seat and went to the refrigerator to retrieve my requested drink.

Logan's mom set dinner in the middle for us to grab as we pleased. She cooked mac & cheese, chicken and dumplings, a turkey, a vegetable casserole, and mashed potatoes with gravy. I could tell that she was trying please everyone and I was definitely satisfied.

Logan placed a glass of sweet tea in front of me. I muttered a thank you to him and he smiled as he took his seat again. I filled my plate with all of the food items and I could feel Logan smirking at me as he did the same.

"Marie, did you know that Logan goes to U of C?" My dad informed me. I pretended to be shocked and stared at Logan. He politely smiled and nodded his head.

"I didn't know that." I lied right through my teeth. It was becoming easier to lie to my parents. I didn't like lying to them. I picked up my glass of tea and asked before drinking it, "How do you like it?"

"I love it." He honestly replied and sent a smile to me and my parents. "It's a great school." When I drank my tea, I was thrown off guard with how fizzy it tasted. After a minute, I realized it was soda instead of sweet tea. I sent a glare to Logan and he tried to hold back his laughter.

"Marie applied there, but she's waiting to hear back." I turned back to face my mom and smiled at her. Poor thing doesn't know that I've been deferred. "U of C is her dream school."

"Really?" Logan said surprised. "I work at Undergraduate Admissions and most decisions have already been sent out." He turned to face me and my face turned redder than a tomato. "Are you sure you haven't heard back? Did you check online?"

"Um, w-well," I began to stutter. Of course Logan would be the one to drop my secret in front of everyone. "I've checked and still nothing." Logan stared at me as if he wasn't buying my story. He bought it however and stopped pestering me.

"Oh, well. Don't feel discouraged. I'm sure you'll get in." He winked at me and squeezed my shoulder. "When I get back to work, I'll put in a good word for you."

"Wow." I actually said shocked. "Thanks." Logan nodded at me and we continued the dinner. I wasn't actually miserable the entire time. Logan's family were very nice people and I geninunely enjoyed being there with them.

After dinner was over, Logan collected everyone's plates and I stood up to offer to help and Logan agreed without contest. Our parents went outside to sit on the patio while we washed dishes together in silence. He washed while I dried and listened to where he told me to place the plates.

"Why haven't you told your parents about your admission status?" Logan softly asked when he stopped washing the dishes. I stopped what I was doing and froze. I blushed in embarrassment again and Logan sighed. "Were you rejected?"
