~Niall’s P.O.V~
I didn’t know what to think when I heard the news. I wasn’t even the one who answered the phone when they called. It was my cousin Molly.
She had come in with a worried expression on her face, and I didn’t know what to expect. She had the phone in her hand, and it seemed like she was struggling with telling me something. It took a while for her to actually get the words out, and by the time she did, I had already had millions of worse case scenarios running through my head. They were all better than what she had actually told me.
How are you supposed to react to news like that? I didn’t know if I was supposed to break down crying, or if I was supposed to get angry, and pissed, that she had actually done something like that. So I ended up just standing there, staring at my ginger haired cousin in utter shock.
To make matters worse, my Mum hadn’t even returned from going to get Greg. I had no idea what was keeping her, but after hearing something like that, she was one of the only people I wanted to talk to. The other was Kacey. My cousin had just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“Niall!” She yelled, irritation clearly written across her freckled face. “Aren’t you going to go to the hospital?!” Her green eyes gave away her concern and worry. “Your mate’s in bad shape!”
I didn’t even bother to move. I couldn’t. I just stared at her. “C’mon!” She yelled as she grabbed her keys off of the hook next to the door. “I don’t care what you say; I’m driving your arse down to the hospital!”
I didn’t even have time to blink before she grabbed my hand and dragged me down the drive and threw me into the passenger seat of her car. The next thing I knew we were speeding down the road in the direction of the hospital.
“It’s my fault…” I whispered, the feelings of guilt starting to sink in now.
Molly sighed. “No it’s not. You couldn’t have kept something like this from happening. Look, I don’t know this girl, but if she wanted to commit suicide then it was already on her mind before she had even met you.”
I shook my head, feeling the unwanted tears pricking the back of my eyes. “I lead her on. I hurt her.”
“Shut up!” Molly yelled, as we stopped at a red light. “This is not your fault! If it’s anyone’s it’s this girl’s! She chose to do something like this! So stop blaming yourself!”
Molly was wrong I knew she was, but even though she didn’t know Kacey, I knew she was taking this harder than she was letting on. A year ago her boyfriend had done the same thing. She didn’t understand why he had done such a thing, and she had thought it was her fault. I don’t know if she still blames herself, but I know she still cries when the anniversary of his death comes around.
“I’m sorry…” I mumbled to myself. The apology wasn’t directed at Molly. It was more for me then anyone. I didn’t know exactly what I had done to make Kacey hate me so much, but I wanted the chance to tell her that I was sorry.
The rest of the car ride was silent. Both of us not bothering to say what we were thinking about, if we had, I know I would have started crying like a baby. I already was crying, but if I had brought her up I knew that I wouldn’t be able to stop.
