Isolation

When mike woke up he was surrounded by darkness and the feeling of loneliness.
He breathed in and out as calmly as he could 'it's ok mike' he thought to himself, 'Matt will be back any minute and it will be ok'.

Isolation, something that mike hated and feared, because it gave him time to think. And if he wasn't distracted (by a body of someone's to press against or the city's sounds and colours) he would think, and thinking lead way to all sorts of horrifying and depressing thoughts.

'Breath mike, one two three.' Just like normal, mike tried to breath. Just to take a breath but it felt like an impossible task.

"Mike?" Matt's voice echoed around mike, like a small beacon of hope and comfort. Mike looked up and realised he had been crying.

"Hey mike what's wrong?" Matt asked moving to sit in first of the elder teen.
"I- I thought you were gone..." Mike sniffed and shook, why was it so cold all of a sudden?

Matt seemed to realise it was cold too because he took off his letter jacket and draped it over mike, mike was about to protest but Matt cut him off.

"Take it, you need it more" Matt demanded.

Mike felt stupid, he was supposed to be the tough one of the group (him and Sam, the two people that would most likely kick your ass if you hurt their friends), he wasn't supposed to be crying in front of one of the nicest people in the group.

Matt looked at mike sympathetically, Matt seeing only one way to calm down the older crying boy dropped to his knees and hugged mike softly. Mike stiffened but then sunk into Matt's comforting embrace.

Mike mumbled something unintelligible into Matt's woollen turtle neck, and Matt tried to let go to see what mike said but mike pulled him closer.

"Stay please." Mike asked timidly.

Matt smiled softly at the sincere words.

"Of course I'll stay. I'll never leave." Matt reassured mikes crying figure.

Matt woke up to mike hugging his waist like a stressed two year old, Matt didn't move in fear of waking the older boy and for some reason Matt felt happy with the feeling of mikes arms around his waist. His fingers just brushing the skin under Matt's shirt, and the soft snoring that emitted from mikes figure. And if Matt could be scared of anything else in the world it would be this, it scared Matt because laying with mike like this...

It felt natural, and comforting and holy fuck that scared Matt. Matt had heard that mike had slept with every girl in the school and then some, he had a reputation of never staying around very long. But behind closed doors it had been rumoured that mike would... Have interactions with guys.

Not that Matt was weirded out by that, he really couldn't care who people slept with. But still something about mike holding Matt's waist while sleeping felt... Odd, and nice at the same time.

And as Matt sat questioning why it felt comfortable to have a guy attached to his hip, mike lay now wide awake listening to the sound of Matt's steady breathing not wanting to move away from the younger boy. Loving the warmth and the smooth dark skin at the tips of his fingers, and the steady thumping of Matt's heart.

Mike and Matt both felt as though they could stay there forever.

Unfortunately neither of the boys usually got what they wanted and jumped apart the second they heard Sam's voice sounding in the distance.

"Mike! I- ugh." Matt stuttered and moved further away from the oldest boy.

"Mike! Matt! Where the hell are you!" Chris's voice echoed closer than Sam's.

The small group that had been searching for the two teens saw the cave and hurried over, they all looked inside and saw the two missing boys.

"Holy fuck, dudes I thought you two were just boning in the woods and didn't want us to hear."

If it was possible mike and Matt jumped further away from each other and Matt looked absolutely flustered.

"Wasn't that Chris's and your plan this weekend?" Mike answered back albeit slightly awkwardly.

"Oh my god stop!" Mike heard Chris's voice sound from somewhere behind Josh and Sam.

They all laughed lightly and then Matt spoke, "where's everybody else?" He asked.

"Oh their back up at the lodge, they got sick of camping and they don't even know you two doofuses were missing." Sam explained.

After Sam fussing over them, giving the two food and water and finally checking if they had frostbite (when Sam was sure they didn't Josh remarked with 'probably used body heat' and then ran away to the lip of the cave squealing when mike punched his shoulder), they all went back up through the trail that Matt and mike blindly stumbled up, and went back up to the lodge.

Matt and mike remaining very close on the way back, no one noticing except for Sam who mike would later comment on being 'too perceptive for her own good'.
