Can I go out? This hit me like a rock. "Not yet Donovan, you don't look like a human yet, you will scare others." That wasn't even the reason. I told Steve he wasn't ready. Then could you give me a 'skin'? This hit me like a bus at full speed. But I knew I couldn't let him down, he has feelings. Also, what's the worst that could happen?
I headed out of my lab to HRDL, where I got Donovan from. They always make humanoids with synthetic leather as a 'skin' and Donovan came without one, so I guess they might still have it somewhere.
"Hey Ryan," I asked, "by any chance would you have Don- I mean R15's skin."
R15 is the actual name of Donovan. But I prefer Donovan better. No doubt.
He, with a puzzled and judgemental look, took a while to understand me. "Oh! You mean the synthetic leather for the robot. Yeah sure come this way."
He led me to this vault at the back of the room. He punched in a complicated 18-digit code and I wondered what would they even have inside that's worth stealing. "Why would you need it though. I thought you just needed R15 to insert the programmes they tasked you to make."
"Sorry?" I wasn't paying attention.
"Why would you need the 'skin', as you call it?" Ryan repeated.
"I wanted a good-looking robot. News coverage of a piece of metal may not strike public's interest."
He went to brown box labelled 'Box 15' and brought it back to me.
"It's like a full body suit, the zipper's at the back of the head, which will be blocked by the synthetic hair when it's on. You can still off R15 by saying 'R15 shutdown'. The suit wouldn't hinder anything."
I say my thanks and I'm back on my way to my lab.
"Donovan asked me to bring him out to explore the outdoors. He even termed the synthetic leather for the outer covering of robots as skin. Is he that much 'human'? Also, there's not much out there worth seeing, why would he want to go out?"
