I wake suddenly to banging on the bathroom door. "SOLA! Are you in there? Are you ill? You have 5 seconds before I break this door down!" I hear Katie's panicked wails. I stand up and open the door, purposely avoiding my reflection, Katie jumps at me and hugs me tight. "Oh Sola! You worried me so much. I couldn't find you and then the bathroom was locked and oh!" She sobbed into my shoulder. I was too shocked to do anything, but pat her back. "Come, let me do your hair pretty. It would look so totally pretty in rope braids and tonight you there is a game night for other people on this floor. We can't have you looking like a wreck to meet new people." Katie let go of her grip on me and took my hand and lead me to a chair. She brushed my hair out and twisted here and there for what seemed like forever while she chattered on.
Katie finished my hair and told me to stay still for one moment and hurried out of the room and came back in with a pile of stuff. "I thought it would be fun if I could give you a make over. Is that all right?" She gave a tentative smile and I nodded. Katie was acting as if we were getting ready for a party or a dance. She washed my face and the applied different make up products.
"Sola, do you have any siblings?" Katie asked as she rummaged through a bag for the 'perfect shade of lip gloss'.
"Yes. My little sister named Cora." I whispered back.
"Oh, lucky. I wish I had a little sister. I'm an only child, but I have always wanted a little sister to make over." Katie smiled big at me. "Okay, so now here is the perfect bow and now just put on this nightgown!" She held up a pretty pale blue nightgown that was almost gray that was lined with lace, it looked like a nightgown from an old romance novel. I put it on and Katie led me to a mirror. I slowly looked into the mirror and was surprised that I saw a beautiful girl with big gray eyes looking back. The girls hair was twisted perfectly down her back and she looked healthy and tall, like a model almost. The big blue gray nightgown and blue gray bow made her eyes shine. I smiled and the girl in the mirror smiled back. That girl I me. "I knew I could get you to smile! Now come on, it is time for game night to begin."
