Up and early I joined my aunt in her lavish newly fitted country kitchen- in this space you could probably fit at least 50 people- I repeat, at 'least'. We devoured in waffles and pancakes alongside fresh fruit and Irish coffee. Zoe joined us an hour before we were scheduled to leave, so my aunt and me left to go to the attic to grab some photos and memories for my apartment. When we arrived I think my eyes were no longer in my sockets- the attic was so huge I couldn't believe my eyes- considering it's the roof of the whole house, the place could fit more than 1000 people. It was crazy!
So we scurried around until we found the antique chest filled with albums, I pulled my parent's wedding album, my 2nd birthday photos and a couple keepsakes of my grandmas. To say I was weighed down was an understatement.
Soon after Zoe was finished with her late breakfast and we were all set to go. The butler loaded my aunts Bentley and heated up the car for us. We said our goodbyes quite hastily as we were behind schedule due to Zoe being all goo- goo eyes at Logan Lerman acting in Perks of Being a Wallflower, this girl will never grow up- I just can't stop wondering why she enjoys perching her nose in celebrities lives when she should be creating something of herself.
At 12:39 we set off towards the land of Evergreen as Zoe likes to call it, it was about 1 hour and 20 minute drive from my aunts according to the butler so I thought I'd catch up on some reading for university. Being a new graduate and all is riling up my nerves- I haven't felt like this since the beginning of joining college but thinking of how I got through that- it's highly possible I can get through this year with 0 distractions and a clear vision of what I want to become- a lawyer.
After countless attempts of trying to shut zoe up about all the green land and sheep I finally started doing some close reading analysis on a case study and brushing up on my mooting skills. I cannot wait to start doing practical sessions- testing all my skills in real world. By the time I finished we arrived at the lower side of Evergreen University, time to finally get rid of Zoe. The butler took our belongings up to her room once we grabbed her keys and went off back to aunts. Time to sort her room out!
"Do you think I should put my pink mr snuffles on the bed? or should I not, don't want any guy walking in here and making fun of my mr snuffles" she asked handling the stuffed elephant.
"Erm Zo, you're 18 years old- who still keeps stuffed animals? and for the other question, there will be no boys in here- i mean it, focus on your studies- so many finances and savings went in for us to come and live here- we need to make mom proud and I don't think partying, sex, alcohol and boys will solve anything towards your studies, especially after that break up-" oh shit i shouldn't have mentioned that. "Honestly, I know I said 1 guy but don't jump at the option- become independent and if you find someone then so be it with your little relationships- just don't come running to me when it doesn't work out- they never do." With that she gruffed and started putting finishing touches around her dorm.
"Okay let's go meet the dorm buddies- hopefully they'll like me, after all, I'm American!"
When we arrived in the communal kitchen- it was safe to say that they were all here- there was a blonde haired girl standing by the bar table with a tall, lanky dark haired and pale skin guy. On the couch was 2 other guys watching something on their laptop and in the corner sat a dark brown tousled curly hair boy- fairly built. There's no doubt my sister will stick him on the Zoe snogging- to-do list.
"Hey dorm buddies!" Zoe squealed, God did she just embarrass herself on purpose? The blonde waved and walked around the table to greet Zo, her name was rebecca. After the two other guys stood up from the couch, said hi and rushed out. Then the tall guy walked around and commented "Hi, my name's Steven- I study journalism and am originally from London, oh and it's called flatmates here love".
Zoe beamed and gushed out "OMG London! Have you ever been to one of the red carpet events?"and there it was- the embarrassing questions she comes out with- how intellectual. Both of them laughed it off and asked what course she was studying. When she told them she was studying English literature, they both looked at the boy behind them and shouted "Yo, Taylor- she's in your class". So the dark and broody dude was taylor- hm it suits him. He stood up walked past us and muttered "retarded americans". Oh no he didn't- well at least I know he'll be away from my little sister and off her snogging- to-do list. I thought it would be best to head to my apartment for the first time- God knows what state that will be in. I said my goodbyes to Zoe and her new flatmates and left for the train station.
Once I arrived, I sat down, ate some grapes and texted my aunt to let her know I dropped Zo off. As I sat there I felt as if someone was watching me, scanning my eyes around the platform I didn't see anyone but passengers running to their platforms and an old couple sharing a cup of coffee. My train arrived sooner than later and I quickly boarded on to one of the table type seats, placing my phone on the table and my bag under the seat. Minutes later the train was getting busy and out of nowhere a young man, probably around my age, sat opposite me. At first I had to have a double glance just to see if it wasn't Jake Abel or whatever celebrity my sister was stalking last year. I relaxed once the train started moving and everyone was settled. My phone vibrated signalling my aunt texted me back, I replied that I was heading to my apartment now and my battery was on 2%, as I was typing I felt a pair of eyes on me, looking up I was proven right. He was intently staring at me and those green orbs of his were making every inch of me feel a little uneasy and uncomfortable.
"Hi, I guess we have the same phones!" he said pulling out his grey iphone 6 and placing it on the table opposite mine. The english accent ruined that intense moment"
I looked down at his and fake smiled, "Yes we do- I think majority of us Americans have it".
"Hmm American? Rarely see one of those here, what brings you to Evergreen? America is such an amazing country why move to the UK?"
Okay perhaps I was a little harsh on throwing my anglophobic feelings towards him- I gotta give it to him, either he really wants this conversation going or he sussed out my sarcasm and rude smile. "Well, my sister has just started an undergraduate course here, and my mom kinda forced me to do my masters course here- really I don't want my party animal of a sister running around England getting into wrong situations".
"Wow haha, so what do you study?"
"Law, how about yourself?"
"I have also recently graduated in media, planning to open up my own company in the states"
"Awesome! where about are you thinking?"
"Probably LA" he smiled showing a mega-watt grin.
"Oh wow that's cool!" Just because I was getting along with him does not mean I will give him all my details- these men need to back off. He was about to say something but the overhead speaker cut him off- "Now stopping at Malton green". That's my stop, I grab my back from under the chair until the stupid train came to a quick halt causing the lady next to me to fall forward, and everything else to shuffle. As embarrassing as that seemed, I quickly stood up grabbed my bag and walked out the stall.
"Excuse me!" I turned around and seen the guy waving my phone around, i quickly turned back and got my phone, "Thank you, it was nice talking to you".
"I agree, have fun with your studies" he waved as I walked away.
The minute I got off the platform I had to take 3 exits just to find my way to the taxi bay, I quickly read the address to the driver and was enroute to the apartment. 5 minutes later he stopped at the drop off point, I paid him, then walked up to the front door of the apartment complex. Making my way up, I found my door and hastily took out my keys to open up. Everything here looks great!, besides all the boxes I have to empty, and luggage I have to pack up- I've never been so grateful to have Aunt Serafine's driver drop off my luggage, otherwise i would have my cases rolling around the side curb again or perhaps rolling on people's feet in the train!
I am exhausted! I quickly found my pyjamas, brushed my teeth, placed my phone on charge and jumped straight into bed all under 4 minutes! Once my head hit the pillow I was knock out!
