AN- Hi everyone :) Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I've been busy with work and school at the moment so I haven't been very active recently.

Everything was dark and I couldn't feel anything. Was I dead? Had they killed me?

If this was what it felt like to be dead, I really didn't enjoy it. It wasn't peaceful, like everyone said it was. It was horrible and filled with an agonizing silence that was going to drive me insane.

And it would have, if I hadn't started hearing the voices, talking to each other. Were they dead too? Were they trying to communicate with each other?

I wasn't really sure what they were saying because I was trying to move but it was hard when my entire body was numb.

Concentrating hard, I tried to muster up enough energy to move but it wasn't much. The only thing I could do was wiggle my fingers and my toes.

I heard the voices again and then something that sounded like footsteps. Suddenly, the sound of something slamming made me jolt awake and I sat up quickly, wincing and letting out a cry of pain.

"It's okay! It's alright!"

A man was beside me and he watched me with a worried expression on his face. His hands reached out for my shoulder and he pushed me back down so that I was laying on the sofa again. Had he put me here? Did he bring me these blankets that I was surrounded in?

"How do you feel?" he asked me, pushing his thin rimmed glasses slightly further up on his nose. His face was kind, yet stern and he appeared to be in his early thirties. His hair was a white blond and he wore along white coat, almost like a lab coat, with a black button up shirt and a navy tie.

"A-are you g-going to kill m-me?" I said, although it came out as more of a hoarse , barely audible voice. However, he seemed to hear me and he chuckled lightly, placing a hand on mine.

"No,"he said, clearly amused. "You're safer here than in your own home."

My eyes widened a little as I realised what he was saying. Was he saying that my house wasn't safe? What about my brother and parents? Were they safe?

"W-what about my family?" I said, wincing slightly as the words scratched at the inside my throat. "Are they safe?"

The man smiled sadly and I tried to sit up again, wincing and lying down because my stomach hurt too much where I'd been kicked.

"I don't know," he told me and I knew from his expression that he was being honest. "Do you have any siblings?"

"A b-brother," I replied and then I mentally slapped myself.

The man raised his eyebrows interestedly and I got slightly concerned.

"Does he have any... special qualities?" he asked and I stared at him confused.

"W-what do you mean?"

"Does he... see things? Like ghosts or anything?" the man looked at me, folding his arms across his chest and pushing his glasses up his nose again.

"No,"I answered, still confused. "Why do you ask?"

The man sighed and put a hand to my forehead, checking my temperature.

"Slight fever," he commented and then he looked me in the eyes. "I was just curious to know if he saw things like you did."

I watched him suspiciously and noticed that the sky outside was streaked with pink and orange clouds. Was it sunset or sunrise? How long had I been unconscious for? How did he know that I was seeing things?
