Recap...
“As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted” (cue glare in my direction) “Honorbridge school for boys has encountered some difficulties in their construction of the new wing of the school. Since we are such a hospitable and kind school, I have offered to let the students stay within our premises for one year until the wing is completed and safe.”
Did I just hear her correctly? A whole year of the boys staying with us? A whole year of the boys staying with us after I have given them the impression that I make no effort in my appearance whatsoever?
Oh, This is going to be great fun…
… … … … … …
After the assembly finished I trundled over to my first lesson, which happened to be art. I usually would have walked over with Sophie but I couldn’t find her within the hall so I walked over on my own.
When I walked into the class room I sat myself at the easel that was situated furthest from the front of the class. I didn’t really want to listen to Mr. Quinn ramble on about shading and whatnot for a whole hour, so I tucked my ipod inside my blazer inner pocket and inconspicuously pulled the headphones up to my ears. Hidden underneath my hair, you couldn’t tell that I wasn’t listening to the teacher, so I flicked the on switch and selected a song to listen to.
A smile grew on my face when I realised the first song that was playing; It was “Moves like Jagger” by Maroon 5- I loved this song! I noticed that everyone else had sat down and began drawing from the set that was positioned in the middle of the room, so I grabbed a pencil and began to sketch some of the flowers that were there.
“Moves like Jagger” was still playing, so I started drawing in time to the music. I must have looked like an absolute freak, bopping my head around whilst flinging my arm around in front of a sheet of paper.
Suddenly, there was a sharp jab in my back. I whipped my head round to find the culprit who prodded me, only to find a tall dark haired boy looking down at me.
I glowered at him with my most intimidating look but all he seemed to do was pull his mouth up into a small smirk.
He started moving his mouth but I couldn’t hear what he was saying. I mouthed to him to speak up, but he just looked at me with a surprised expression.
Crap! I just remembered that I still had my headphones in! I guess when I told him to speak up, I must have yelled it for the whole class to hear. I glanced around only to see everyone’s eyes on me- including Mr. Quinns.
I slowly removed the headphones from my ears and shot menacing looks at all the people who were staring at me. They all quickly removed their gazes and focussed back to their drawings. I turned back to face the boy that was standing near me.
“What do you want?! Why did you prod me?” I snapped at him.
“I was going to ask if I could borrow your eraser?” he replied calmly.
I practically threw the rubber at him. Even I was surprised at the force which I threw it. It ricocheted off his chest and landed with a thump on the opposite side of the room.
He lightly rubbed his chest where the eraser had hit him- I was sure that it would bruise the next day and internally smiled at the thought.
He gave me a puzzled look which silently said “What was that for?” I merely shrugged and turned back to my work without giving him a second glance. I still didn’t understand was why he prodded me in the back so hard. I mean, don’t get me wrong it wasn’t exactly very painful, but it annoyed me that I didn’t know why he did it.
He walked away in the direction where the eraser landed- leaving me to continue with my drawing. Ugh, I was glad he was gone. Although I didn’t really know him, he seemed like one of those people that only thought about themselves. It was all about him him him...
Hang on a second- Him? I thought this was an all-girls school! I scanned my eyes over the whole room, which is when I noticed a group boys sitting in a far corner. How had I missed them before? I guess I wasn’t as observant as I used to be.
I didn’t think that the boys would have started immediately in our classes; The teachers could at least have given us a pre-warning telling us that we would be merging together!
There was little point in getting annoyed about the situation because it wouldn’t change anything, so I continued on with my drawing until the end of the lesson.
When the bell rang signalling break, I gathered my bag from the floor and hurried to the door. As I was just about to walk through it, I heard sniggering behind my back. I spun round only to face Rachel Turlington- the biggest B*tch in the whole school with a smile upon her face.
“Rachel honey, you really shouldn’t smile like that. The wind might change and you’ll be stuck like that forever- and we wouldn’t want people to get the impression that you’re friendly in any way,” I said with fake concern.
She glared at me through her overly made up face while her posse made snide remarks about me behind her.
“Natalie,” She began. “You really shouldn’t try and make witty comments like that, especially when you are in the perfect position to be ridiculed yourself.”
“What on earth are you talking about?”
“Take a look at the back of your blazer.”
I shrugged the blazer off my shoulders and took it in my hands. When I flipped it over, I saw that there was a huge splodge of brown paint which looked surprisingly like, well, you’ve guessed it.
There was only one person who I know had touched my back today, and that was the boy who asked to borrow my eraser. He must have accidentally got paint on my jacket and hadn’t told me in case I was angry. Or even worse, he could have purposely dropped the paint on my jacket to humiliate me.
I was so angry at the boy getting paint on me, that I had completely forgotten that Rachel was standing right in front of me. I stormed out of the door, making sure to knock her with my shoulder.
I clutched my blazer furiously as I made my way into the yard to look for him. He was SO dead meat…
