There is a race in Middle Earth that no one speaks of. A race that no one sings about, and whose history is locked within the minds of those who remember. Elementals were made to be the divine beings, born withh the ability to manipulate one of the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water. They were created by the Valar with the purpose of using their powers to restore and keep peace in the whole of Middle Earth. They were a gentle folk once, beloved by all, and only fierce when they needed to be. This peace, however, was not destined to last.
Over time, Elementals grew dark. They rebelled against everything they were made for, and Middle Earth broke out into civil war. The battle was ruthless. Many lives were lost, and the earth was crawling with hurricanes, tidal waves, and firestorms. After what seemed like a lifetime, all of Middle Earth came together, and fought as one. The war ended, and the Elementals perished.
All Elementals that survived were imprisoned. The Elves would not risk the lives of entire races against the possibility of a repeat of past events. The remaining Elementals were disposed of. However, the Valar did not seem to agree with the plans of the Elves.
The Valar did not recreate the race of the Elementals, for they would only meet the same fate as their forebears. It was decided that the need for the lost race still existed, in order to keep the balance of peace in Middle Earth. In order to prevent them from reuniting, the Valar would place the abilities of an Elemental into very few beings of different races all across Middle Earth. In doing this, Middle Earth would certainly find peace in their times of darkness.
These certain beings were different. Having the abilities of one race inside another was not entirely compatible. The Elemental traits distorted the appearance of those who carried them. An Elf would not look entirely like an Elf, or a Man would not look entirely like a Man. They were fated to be the ones who stood out, the ones who would be misunderstood. Little did those around them know how important they would be. In due course, however, the showing of the Elemental abilities in these beings became few and far between, and forgotten.
A time would eventually come when a certain one of these beings, these Neo Elementals, would unexpectedly come into the world and save Middle Earth. This being had proved everyone wrong, that there was good in this race that everyone tried so hard to forget. I should know. I was there.
