jungkook buried his hands in his pockets as he turned to the crowd in front of him.
everyone in black were crowding around a chestnut coffin.
some were crying, some were hiding their faces. but all of them were heartbroken .
"we are gathered here today to pay our last tributes and respects to the late lee jieun...."
all sorts of speeches came through, which only made people even cry more, as jungkook noticed.
"her sister , yeri , would like to say a few words."
jungkook looked up from his shoes and instead to the girl who was now up front, preparing to deliver her speech.
'poor girl', he thought .
with her chocolate brown hair that hung loosely around her shoulders, and her hazelnut eyes that sparkled every time she looked up, jungkook was 101% sure that this was the girl he was searching for.
"yeri." he recalled jieun mentioning a few times.
"hey, man." jungkook snapped out from his thoughts when he felt a firm hand on his right shoulder.
he turned to his right to see jimin, and to his left he met with seulgi. both giving him warm and comforting smiles.
"is that the girl?" seulgi asked, pointing to the girl up front.
"yeah." jungkook nodded. "it is."
"j-jieun unnie was everything to me... m-my mother, my best friend, a-and most importantly , my sister."
judging by the way she stutters before every sentence, jungkook could tell that yeri wasn't a very social person, very unlike jieun.
"a-and im truly devastated that sh-she had to leave this quickly. bu-but although shes not with us here, j-jieun unnie will forever remain in our hearts."
"yeri! can you tell us how she died?"
"im very sorry , s-sir, but that information is private—"
"why? did she commit suicide?"
"wh-what?? no! jieun unnie would never—"
"i heard she was facing depression before, is that the reason behind her death!"
"huh ? n-no! jieun unnie was the happiest person alive—"
"if thats true, then why did she die?"
"yeah, is there something you're not telling us?"
jimin immediately stepped forward whilst jungkook just balled his fist, knuckles turning white.
"okay, question time will be held later, give the poor girl some space damnit! she's going through a tougher time that all of you!" jimin said, shooing away the crowd before turning to yerim.
"hi there, you okay?"
"h-huh? oh, uh, y-yes, thank you." she said softly, but loud enough for him to hear.
jimin smiled warmly, "im your sister's friend, jimin."
"u-um, hi, im her sister... yeri."
jimin chuckled lightly. "i know."
yerim fiddled her fingers, thinking of something to say that will not make a fool of herself even more. "i uh, always knew jieun unnie was popular, but i didn't know she was this popular.."
jimin nodded, looking back at the crowd who was desperately trying to get answers on jieuns death.
"h-hey, uh" this time it was jimin stuttering. "i'm really sorry, about jieun."
yerim nodded. "oh, uh, its okay." she swallowed the lump in her throat. "t-thank you by the way. you're actually the first person to say that."
jimin's eyes widened. "what? but like a billion people were talking to you just now."
"y-yeah, well they were only asking questions about jieun."
"o-oh." jimin nodded slowly, feeling his heart breaking by the second. "well, if you ever need anything, then—"
"hello there! you must be yeri! i'm seulgi, a close friend of jieun."
"oh, uh, h-hi." yeri shyly waved.
jimin frowned, "hey, could you not interrupt? i was talking to her—"
"how are you doing, yeri? oh, you poor thing." seulgi patted her shoulder but surprisingly, yeri did not pull away like how she would normally do when people touch her.
she somehow felt comfortable around seulgi.
"here, hand me your cellphone, i'll add my number so you can call me when youre in need."
the younger frowned. "i-i dont... i don't have a c-cellphone."
seulgi frowned slightly but she quickly brushed it off. "a-ah, i see."
seulgi then smiled sweetly as she tugged on jimin's arm before dragging him away. "excuse us for a sec, yeri."
yeri nodded shyly.
"ow—hey -"
"jimin, i can't stand to see her like this. could we take her in?"
"take her in? seulgi are you crazy?—"
"no, jimin, look at her! the poor girl can't make it own her own!""seul, don't you think i know that? but look at the consequences, what if she ends up like jieun?"
seulgi sighed . "yeah, i guess you're right.."
barely two seconds later, jungkook decided to join the group. "yeah, okay, thanks for leaving me back there. really appreciate it." he said sarcastically, crossing his arms.
"pipe down, jeon. there's someone else who's more along than you right now."
"huh?" jungkook cocked up an eyebrow, "who?"
"yeri." seulgi continued, looking ahead to see the petite girl who was kicking the small pebbles beneath her.
"speaking of year, have you met her?" jimin asked, turning back to jungkook.
jungkook swallowed hard and turned away. "no."
'after all , she would probably hate him' jungkook thought desperately.
'he was mainly the cause of her sister's death.'
"why not?" seulgi asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.
"just because." jungkook answered, raising his voice a little.
seulgi rolled her eyes. "she won't eat you, jeon. come on." she said as she marched back to yeri, and jimin followed.
"seulgi, wait!"
"yeri, there's someone we'd like you to meet." she smiled.
"yeah, his name's —" before him in could even point towards him, jungkook was already gone.
"jungkook." jimin narrowed his eyes.
