HEY GUYS! I REALEASED THE BOOK EARLY MWAHAHAHA!!! So um... this is my first fan fiction, so I'll try my best! XD I know my grammar isn't all that great, but please bear with me! Please excuse all errors, and I don't mind if you guys include corrections, because that will help improve the story and make it more enjoyable! >^< Thank you to those who are reading this story, I enjoy your support!

Just a little background about this story:

I was inspired by a song by Rin and Len Kagamine: Feathers Across the Season. It was really good so I decided to base a story off of it! Of course with my little spin! ~^0^~ Just a quick shout out to my little sis and my friend for encouraging me to write one! Anyways enough about me! Onto the story! Enjoy~

Our story takes place during a summer afternoon, in a secluded village up in the mountains, where a certain boy is currently running through the forest that surrounds the small village.

The wind whipped the little 7 year old's face as he ran with all his might through the trees, occasionally stumbling over rocks and tree roots that lined his path. He smirked as he leaped over quite a large tree that was uprooted from perhaps natural causes. The boy turned his head around to see his rival, Gray Fullbuster, also 7 years of age, stumbling after him.

Earlier that day, when they had their daily brawl, the boy punched Gray, thus making him fall into the small river that led down the mountain into the valley below them. Enraged, Gray pulled himself out of the water and chased after him.

"NATSU!" Gray screamed. "YOU ARE SO DEAD!" He said as he ran, dripping from head to toe, after the pink haired boy.

The pink haired boy let out a wild laugh. "You have to catch me first, idiot!"

Using the fact that Gray's clothes were soaked, thus weighing him down, Natsu took this to his advantage. Natsu quickly scaled a rather tall tree, and Gray was unable to reach him. The weight his clothes produced made him unable to climb quickly after the boy.

"NATSU GET DOWN HERE! I STILL HAVEN'T BEATEN YOU!" Gray said as he again attempted to climb the tree.

"You already lost so scram you stupid popsicle!" Natsu responded and stuck out his tongue at the angry 7 year old.

That was when he heard it. Nearby, he heard the call of what seemed to be a rather large bird. As if he had been doing it all his life, Natsu expertly leaped down the tree to the ground and ran in the direction of the noise. Gray, in a moment of shock at what his friend/ rival just did, stood in awe, but then quickly recovered. As he did so, he looked at his surroundings, to find the pink haired boy to have disappeared. Silence. That was all he heard. There was no trace of the idiot, and suddenly he was greeted by the quiet hum of the cicadas.

"Geez, where did that flame brain run off to?" he questioned to no one in particular.

He glanced up the tree Natsu had climbed earlier, and took notice of the cicadas that rested on its branches.

"Summer is already ending, huh?" Gray again questioned to no one. He sighed. "I guess I'll head back now," he said as he slowly trudged back the way he came.

Meanwhile Natsu brushed past trees, still following the sound. The sound only happened every few seconds, and was partially muffled. Natsu kept running, and finally came across a clearing. What he saw was a man struggling to contain a young crane inside a net. There were feathers flying everywhere as the young crane struggled to break free from its containment.

In Natsu's village, crane feathers and meat were considered only for the rich.  The tradesmen would capture cranes, then go down to the valley and trade their newly found merchandise in the flea market.  The rich would most likely pay a high price, now that cranes were coming close to extinction.  However, due to this, the king has ordered that the hunting of cranes was illegal.  Nevertheless, a few high class still purchase
the feathers and meat of cranes from tradesmen that oppose the king's will.

Natsu did not like the fact how the tradesmen were killing innocent animals just for their own benefits, and knew that this was an illegal act.  Natsu stomped up to the man and grabbed his sleeve.

"Hey mister!  I don't think it's nice to capture that crane.  I think it wants to be released," he said to the struggling man, who was straining to contain the wildly flapping bird.

"Let go of me, boy!  This is a good one, and I need the money so I can live the luxurious life like the high class do!  Now run along!" The man said as he tried prying Natsu off of him while still holding onto the net.

Natsu clung on to the man still, knowing full well that whatever the man was doing was wrong.  The man, now frustrated and enraged, used both of his hands to pry Natsu's small hands off of him.  The tradesman succeeded, however, due the tradesman's foolishness, he let go of the net trapping the crane.  The young crane, taking the opportunity, pushed the net it was entrapped in, righted itself to its proper height, and gazed at the young boy that supposedly saved it.

Natsu stood up from the ground and brushed himself off. He glanced upwards only to be met with the intense stare of crane. What he saw in those dark as night eyes, was the reflection of his very soul. Those eyes that held an adventurous spirit, freedom, knowing. However, those eyes held a little knowledge and wisdom in it too.
The tradesman began to get up, and with shaky hands began approaching the young crane.

"You can't escape me! You are mine! I own you!"
As he looks lunged at the crane, attempting to possibly pin its wings down, Natsu saw a glint in the crane's eye as it spread its wings and took off.

The tradesman, startled, fell down and crawled back in fear for the sudden action.

Natsu watched in awe as the crane flew majestically away, the setting sun's rays giving the feathers of the crane a vibrant glow that seemed almost...heavenly. As the crane flew further away, Natsu watched it as it disappeared from sight, and felt a slight breeze ruffling his
pink hair.  He gazed at its disappearing figure, and grinned.
