"W-what is it?  Is there something on my face?"  She stuttered as she began to vigorously rub the sides of her mouth with the back of her hand.

Natsu, having been standing there with his mouth open, quickly closed the door, and replied, "Ah! No no no!  Sorry for staring longer than I should have...!  It's that you look so....," he began to mumble, "So pretty..."

The girl, having not caught what he said stuttered, questioned, "Can you please repeat that again?"

"I- I said you looked shitty!" Natsu exclaimed in embarrassment (A/N sorry for that minor bad language *cough*)  Then he quickly covered his mouth with his hands and slightly averted his eyes away from her as a pink hue rose to his cheeks.

She noticed his slight embarresment and let out a laugh that sounded like the ringing of clear bells.  Her heart started beating faster. What is this feeling?   The color in her cheeks changed to a slight pinkish color, and for some unknown reason to her, she felt embarrassed and looked the other way.  I never experienced this feeling as a crane...what is this?

The night continued with them not looking at each other and sipping their tea. After drinking their fill, Natsu stood and picked up both of their cups to put into the little tub that was his sink (A/N he poor af).

"Ahem," Natsu coughed to get the blonde's attention. "We never really introduced ourselves and I kind of invited you in and uhhh...yeah...," he nervously said as he turned to finally faced her again. "I'm Natsu, Natsu Dragneel (A/N *cough* Swagneel *cough*). It's nice to meet you. I work as a farmer here," he said.

The girl stared at him.

"Uh...your turn," Natsu said.

"Oh! My apologies! I'm... Uh....," she said. Shoot I wasn't given a name as a crane. I have to think of something fast! "Lucy, just Lucy," she said with confidence. "I used to...," she began. Ah! I can't tell him immediately that I used to be a crane! That would make him freak out and think I'm weird or something! But I have to tell him eventually...

All the while Lucy was having a mental debate with herself, Natsu sat there, amused by her facial expressions. At times her face would scrunch up, and at other times she would be left with a face of confusion as she stared off into her little world.

Natsu suddenly let out a laugh, which caused Lucy to jump back in surprise at the sudden loud burst. "Lucy you're hilarious! You can stay at my place for now since you look like you don't have anywhere to stay. And don't worry. You don't have to tell me about your past if you are not ready," Natsu said and smiled his usual childish grin.

Lucy blushed slightly, but the fire's ember's concealed it, and let out a genuine smile of her own. "Thanks Natsu," she said.

"No prob," Natsu replied as he started to set out some extra blankets on the ground.

"What are you doing," Lucy interrogated him, her voice laced with curiosity.

"I'm setting some blankets up so I can sleep. You can take my bed. And don't try to act humble and refuse. If you do I'm still sleeping on the ground," he said with firm conviction.

Lucy, realizing she didn't have a choice, decided not to argue and walked over to his bed and laid down. She was then greeted with a loud snore. Ehhh?! Already?! She thought as she stared at the sleeping Natsu.  She glanced out of the little hut window and saw that the snow storm had dispersed.  All there was, was a thin layer of white, powdery snow.

She then recalled the words of  the goddess:
I shall not make you completely human, and will allow you, only at night, to be able to turn back into a crane and stretch your wings.  However, once the rays of the shining sun appear behind the mountains, you will revert back to your human form.

I guess it would be great to stretch my wings for a little, she pondered.  With that, she quickly, and quietly, made her way to the door and opened it.  She with such swiftness succeeded in closing the door quietly, but unknown to her, left the door slightly open.

Lucy made her way across the thin sheet of fine snow.  It was pitch black outside, and slightly chilly.  If one were to be passing by the village at the same time, same day, they would have been able to see a brief flash of bright light, and then all was quiet and dark again.

Lucy, in crane form, took off with a couple powerful flaps of her huge wings.  She then headed towards the woods, and road along the slight breeze of the chilly night.  All was peaceful, until her vision went black.
