Whoa. The kitchen is seriously messy.

I have the answer. We got home from the hospital yesterday. Lucy's running out of time. And I have it. The answer is cupcakes.

"So, Lockwood, exactly what kind of cupcakes were you thinking of? Chocolate, jammy, or maybe red velvet?"

"None of the above, George. We are making gooey marshmallow cupcakes. Of the rainbow variety."

"OK, but we'd need the food colouring. And because they're so messy, Holly locked them away, remember? She has the only key."

At the mention of her name, my phone beeped, and a message from Holly popped up on the screen.

Holly Munro

Oh my gosh! Lockwood, I know I was on holiday, but I heard about Lucy. They even show the same news in Scotland! How weird is that? I'm in town right now, waiting for the bus. I'll be back in two shakes, so we can sort something out. XOXO

So I texted back:

GR8.

"She's on her way."

Once we'd explained the plan, Holly obligingly opened the Colouring Cupboard, as she had labelled it. So we got to work. I sort of felt a bit bad about it, having so much fun without Lucy. But it was fun. Holly (rather wisely) retreated to the office, whilst me and George got on with the food.

"Is it worth the waiting for? If we live till eighty-four, all we ever get is GRUEL! "

"You been watching Oliver again?"

"Whilst eating doughnuts. You should try it! Might take off some pressure."

"I think I'll pass. Might try Flight of the Doves if Lucy gets better."

"When she gets better. You need to stay positive, Lockwood, else these cakes will taste horrible!"

"OK."

Eventually, the kitchen was covered in a blanket of flour, with the odd spot of purple dye here, a bit of red there, it was basically a rainbow kitchen. And the newly-baked cupcakes smelt gorgeous. We just had price them now. You know how I call them cupcakes? Well, they're a bit more like bucket cakes really, they're so huge! Or maybe even double-bucket cakes. Anyway, they were huge.

"First of all Lockwood, we actually spent the whole morning, plus two hours of the afternoon making them. There are 100, and we need £1,000. They're absolutely massive, so I say we price them at a highly reasonable, £11. Agreed? Good. Let's get these outside, and start selling!"
