Chapter 3

Seth drove us to a forest. I was shocked that was his choice, but he explained Edward had told him it was a place that I would probably love. I didn't know when Edward had spoken to him, but it didn't really matter at the moment.

"Seth?" I said, feeling too nervous with the long, awkward silence.

"Yes, Caroline?" He said sweetly, like he was already in love me. He glanced at me curiously.

"Could you tell me more about the imprinting? I am honestly curious about it." I said, avoiding my real question for him.

He sighed. "There really aren't words for it. But when it happens, you just know."

I stared at him, hoping he would try to explain it better than that. There had to be words for something that 'you just know'.

"It's like..." He started. "A magnetic pull. Once you are near that certain person, you can't leave them without struggle. And either way, you will always come back to them, no matter what the cost."

"What if something was to change?" I asked automatically.

"Can you give me an example?" He questioned, knowing something was wrong with me.

"What if someone was just a human, and they lived in danger because they weren't a vampire? And what if they had to become a vampire? Would the magnetic pull disappear because of the change?"

He only smiled at me. I was hoping that was a good thing, considering the questions.

"No, it would never change. They pull would only change if it got stronger. Even if the werewolf who imprinted on the person hated vampires, the pull would never, ever disappear."

"But what if I was just friends with you? Would it disappear then?"

That seemed to hit a nerve. He didn't want to just be friends with me. He wanted to be a lot more than friends.

"No. After a werewolf imprints, they will be anything that person needs. Whether it's a lover, a brother or a friend. It never has to be one of them. It will be whatever the other person needs or wants." He fidgited, not looking at me.

"Seth, I don't want to be your friend." I whispered. He turned to me, his chocolate brown eyes melting into mine.

He looked back at the road and stopped suddenly. I realized it was by a path. He pulled the key out of the ignition and got out.

He walked to my side, opening the door and staring into my eyes with a loving gaze.

He leaned in closer to me, so close that I could smell his amazing scent. He smelled like fresh cut grass and planted lilies in a garden in the morning dew. I inhaled, feeling intoxicated by his surprisingly sweet scent.

"Then what do you want to be?" He asked softly. He leaned only closer, where our foreheads were almost touching.

"I want to be so much more." I said, closing my eyes gently. His hand stroked my cheek, brushing a strand of loose blonde hair out of my face. I smiled a little, leaning in so our lips were touching lightly. Not a kiss, just a sign of a kiss to come.

"Someone's coming." He whispered. He pulled away, having an angry expression on his face.

"Is it Tanya?" I asked, my heart was thudding violently in my chest, and I was afraid that it would explode.

"No. It isn't someone I have met before. It is someone new." He growled protectivley.

"How do you know?" I can hear them. They are close, I can smell their unusual scent. It's a vampire. Or something of the sort."

"Am I in danger? What is going on, Seth?" I said. I was the only full human in this family. I had to get out of here.

"I am not sure of either of those questions, but we really need to leave. We have to go back to the Cullen house. Everyone is there already. Even the Amazons' showed up for the surprise party for Nessie. We need to get you back to where you are safe. I have to call Edward." He babbled, and I wasn't sure if he was talking to me or to himself.

He ran quickly to his side again and leaped into the truck and closing the door. He jammed the keys into the ignition again, pulling out his phone in the same blurred second.

"Hey, Edward, we have a problem. Someone is here. A vampire.... yes..... okay I'll be there in a minute." He ended the call and turned to me.

"The truck isn't moving. It won't even start. You'll have to ride on my back."

"I'll have to what?!" I yelled at him. Was he being serious? This was his plan?

"While I am in wolf form if course." He said, looking like I had punched him in the face.

"I know that Seth. But why do I have to do this? What the hell is going on?"

"I am not sure. But whatever is coming isn't very far now."

I felt my head spinning. I was obviously in danger if this was the solution. I felt breathing coming out too fast. This couldn't be happening. I felt my eyes shut as I fainted.
