- "So you're into guys?" asked the shorter guy, looking at Lester.
- "Yeah, I.." Lester grinned when he thought of Jay, he didn't see the point in letting this guy start an argument. If he had a problem with it, that was his issue, if not then great...
- "OK well I'm not into that sort of thing but good for you, and best of luck with it!" answered the other mechanic, whose name was Tom.
- "That's good Tom, we're cool so," answered Lester.
- "Yeah pretty much, so long as you don't start trying anything on with me ..." he grinned and put his fists up as if to protect himself.
- "Well thanks for the offer, but you're not really my type," retorted Lester, looking at him with a grin but he was being serious.
They continued with their work, the radio was playing, the boss came in.
"So what has you in such a good mood today, Lester?" teased the boss as he grinned at him.
"Just enjoying settling in to new life here," answered Lester, enigmatically.
"Hmmm.. Tom, has our Lester found himself someone new already?" he asked, looking at Tom with a snigger he couldn't help.
"Yeah I think so, boss," answered Tom, "maybe you can get more out of him than I could."
Lester played cool and didn't answer the questions that the boss asked him, just in a roundabout sort of way. He was smiling all the time, thinking of Jay, and the boss and Tom were teasing him but he couldn't care less.
His phone let out a large sound, he had turned up the volume so if he got a text message he would be sure to hear it coming in. The boss and Tom exchanged glances while Lester pulled out from under the car he'd been working on. After cleaning the grease off his fingers he went to the phone and checked the text.
'Hey L, wanna do something tonite? Say meet at that diner again, maybe eight o'clock?'
Lester just answered back, 'Sure, looking forward to it."
He was really tempted to put an X at the end of the text but didn't want to come on too strong, this was early days.

He was singing to himself as he finished his work and on the way home. His parents noted his good mood and asked him what he was doing. He was a little evasive and said he was just going out to meet some guys from the garage and their friends to have a coffee and check out the new car that one of them had bought. He could have sworn he saw his mother with a smirk on her face, but when he looked up at her, she stared at him blankly and sweetly as if to say 'Me?'

By eight Jay had already arrived at the diner, he was keeping it casual so just put on a dark shirt over the jeans he'd been wearing all day. But he really wanted to see Lester.
Lester was the same and had showered and changed into jeans and a dark shirt, he wore a silver chain around his neck, it was a bit flashy but he thought it showed off his tan. He'd been to the coast with his parents a few weeks before and had been in the sun for a few days.
"Hey Lester," Jay said seductively as he reached out his foot to play with the other guy's.
"Hey Jay, how are you doing this evening?" purred lester, playing right back.
"Good, I..."
Their flirting was interrupted by a chubby waitress chewing gum, asking if they wanted to order. They'd both had dinner so they just ordered coffee, the waitress asked if they would like some pie to go with that, it was fresh and was only one ninety-five for pie and coffee.
"Sure," they both answered and then turned back from the waitress. She had noticed the two well-dressed guys and was hoping for a good tip. But when she saw that she wouldn't get any attention from these two lovebirds, she just threw her eyes upwards. "Bunch of fags," she spat as she returned to the counter, but not so loud that they could hear her. The owner just smiled at them as he remembered his first love.
The two guys were just being coy with each other, neither wanted to admit how much they were thinking about each other, both wanted to play it cool. But they were both getting edgy and thinking they wanted to be alone. When the pie and coffee came, they just played with it and decided they'd carry on their conversation in Lester's car which was parked just outside. Lester paid the bill and they hurried outside.
Once in the car, they kissed for what seemed like a few hours but was in fact only a few minutes.
"So did you miss me?" asked Lester
"Depends, did you miss me?" asked Jay, grinning.
"Yeah I sure did," answered Lester, thinking he just had to lay it out now, he wouldn't let this one get away, the last time he had done that he ... his face fell.
"What's wrong?"asked Jay.
"Nothing, I'll tell you some other time, just something I remembered from the last guy I went out with."
"Should I be worried?" asked Jay, the concern showing a little too keenly on his face and in his tone of voice.
"No," answered Lester, "I was just thinking, it kinda fizzled out because of distance and other things, I don't want that to happen between us. I mean, I ..." he realised now that he had showed his cards and that he couldn't backtrack and he looked into Jay's eyes, searching for a spark.
"Well how about we make it official first and then we can talk about the future," smiled Jay, returning his look, vulnerable but wanting to show how enthusiastic he was.
"You mean...?"
"Yes I mean as boyfriends. Come on, Lester, you're older than me! I've never done this kinda thing before but I can tell you I really want to, with you that is" Jay's voice faltered as he thought Lester would understand he meant sex, which right now wasn't far away from his thoughts but not what he was looking for.
"OKwell let's do it this way," smiled Lester, his confidence coming back. "Jay, whatever-your-last-name-is, will you be my boyfriend?"
"Yes Lester, I will," answered Jay, and moved in for a kiss before either of them could say anything else.
