Chapter 8
Ryan wasn't concentrating on anything other than driving to the warehouse district as fast as possible. It was like tunnel vision. He couldn't see anything other than the road ahead of him. Nothing fazed him at all, he just weaved in and out of traffic, puling mini drifts wherever possible. The drive seemed to take forever even though it was only about four miles away from the mountain.
He soon saw the M3 driving into the warehouse district. He turned on his low beam headlights to avoid being seen as easily and began to tail it, hoping it would bring him directly to who he wanted to see.
"Kara. My name is Kara. If we're going to do this together, then it’s about time I told you my name. So it's Kara." She looked at Ryan's expressionless face, hoping that what she had said would bring some sort of rationality back to him. He looked like something had snapped, disconnected him from himself. Apparently Kara's words didn't get through because Ryan just kept tailing the M3, until it stopped. The two men from the mountain got out and opened the trunk. They pulled a figure that looked like a body out of it and carried him inside the building.
"Alex..." Ryan said almost under his breath. He got out of the car and put on his black hoodie. Kara stepped out of the car as he was zipping it up.
"Don't forget, I'm coming with you. Whether you pay attention to me or not. We'll get him back." She put her hand on Ryan's shoulder. He turned around for a brief moment and almost gave a smile. But instead, he turned back and headed toward the building, flashlight and balisong knife in hand. Kara felt for her collapsible baton in the inside pocket of her tight leather jacket. It was right where she left it. She followed Ryan closely as he entered the building. Their footsteps were quiet on the cold floor of the warehouse, and Ryan hoped no one would see the light of the flashlight. He flipped open his balisong and held it at the ready with a reverse grip. He paused and held his hand up for Kara to do the same. He heard voices somewhere in the room.
"You think he'll show? I don't" One thug said to another
"Of course he will. We kidnapped his friend. Don't be stupid." The two men laughed and Ryan gripped the knife even tighter. Kara touched his shoulder again.
"Think, dude. Think. They'll tell us where he is, so don't just take both of them out. Wait until they split up. Divide and conquer." Ryan sighed deeply, but listened to her. When the two thugs separated, Ryan and Kara rushed one of them. Kara delivered two blows with her baton, stunning the thug and Ryan delivered the final blow, knocking him unconscious. They dragged his limp body and hid it in the shadow of some boxes. Ryan found some rope on him and thought it would come in handy. They moved in on the second thug and Kara delivered two more blows while Ryan readied the rope. Kara kicked him into a large support beam and Ryan tied him to it with the rope.
"Where is he? Where's Alex? Tell me!" Ryan barked at the thug
"I'm not telling you shit. Sod off!" The thug said. His accent was definitely Cockney English.
"Not telling huh? How about now?" Ryan delivered a quick jab in the leg with his knife. The thug howled in pain before speaking again.
"Alright, alright. That way, in the back room. Bollocks, that bloody hurt." Ryan and Kara looked at each other, knocked the thug out, and started toward the back room, leaving the thug tied to the beam.
When they reached the back room, Ryan looked at Kara.
"It's nice to meet you." Ryan smiled at her and pushed open the door.
