I quickly bolted out from under the desk, gasping at who was standing in front of me. I stared at her, excitement filling my body. I ran over to her, hugging her tight.
"Mom," I breathed out, wiping the tears that were streaming down my face.
I looked up at her, seeing her blue orbs twinkle, tears also going down her cheeks. She hugged me back, whispering in my ear.
"Ella, my sweet little Ella," she cried, rubbing my back.
I pulled back, frowning.
"What are you doing here? Dad will be home anytime soon and-"
"Maria?"
I notice her go rigid in place. She turned around slowly to meet his bloodshot hazel eyes.
"Uh... Hi Charlie," she muttered, quickly looking down at the floor.
He walked over to her, lifting her chin up with his finger. He searched her face, stepped back a ways, and smiled.
"Maria darling, you look so... beautiful. What are you doing here? Did you come back for me?" he slurred.
She walked toward me and stood beside me. She wrapped an arm around me, pulling me closer to her.
"Ha. Why would I ever come back to a low life who drinks away his problems?" she retorted, smirking as his face fell," Besides, I came back to this horrendous place to get Ella and bring her with me to Bora Bora," she finished, smiling ear to ear.
He scowled, taking a step toward us. When we stepped back in fear, he grinned.
"I see you're both still scared of me, huh?" he said, smirking at us.
I flinched, glancing at my mom. She started grinning and chuckling, bent over, and started holding her stomach from the laughter.
"Y-you are so funny, Charlie," she laughed out.
His face scrunched up in confusion. My mom stepped back, sat down on the desk, and started laughing at him.
Once she calmed down from her fits of laughter, she got up, and walked over to my dad.
"This is for all the crappy years you put me through. You put me through hell Charlie. Now you get what you deserve. I'm taking Ella and there is nothing you can do about it," she spat.
"Maria... you can't take-"
I cringed watching my dad fall to the floor from the blow of my mom's punch. I started grinning as she turned to me, winking.
"Let's go. Grab everything you need. I'll meet you in the car darling," she said, walking out of the office.
I ran to my room, grabbing the suitcase from my small walk in closet. Grabbing all of my clothes from the closest, I shoved them into the suitcase. Next, I walked over to my bookcase, grabbing my 3 favorite books, also shoving them into my suitcase. Once the suitcase was zipped, I rolled it into the hallway.
The next thing I knew, I was walking into my dad's room, towards the dresser. I grabbed the picture frame, smiling down at it. Taking the picture out of the frame, I took it with me down the stairs and into the kitchen. I grabbed the scissors, cutting the side my dad was on off. He was the past and I don't need to worry about him now.
I walked out of the kitchen into the living room, toward the door, smiling gratefully. I opened the door and stepped out, making sure I slammed the door shut. As I was walking toward the orange convertible, I noticed my mom standing by the opened trunk. I shoved my suitcase in the car and hugged my mom.
