EPILOGUE: Denied by fate

Everything was beautiful.. Since the first day I met him.. I had this secret crush on him. I never thought that he would even lay his eyes on me neither he'd give me a little attention.

As I rest my head on his shoulder, I can't help but to smile and close my eyes while having a glimpse of our future, together.

"Echo... I wish we could stay like this forever.." i said while then I cling my arms to his.

I was waiting for his reply.. but he only gave me a soft laugh.

"Hey... what's funny!?" Then I gave him a 'pa-cute' look.

"No.. nothing.. It's just that.. It's kinda impossible for us to stay this way.. forever."

HUH? It feels like I was struck by a lighting by the thing that he said.

"But why?... Do-don't you want to be...uhm.. to go serious about this thing that we have for each other?" I don't know.. I was stuttering..

And I'm afraid of his answer.

"Mai, we don't even have something going between the two of us!"

They said lightning don't strike the same place twice. But right now, I'm struck twice. This time, it's more painful.

I just look at him and then, silence fill the air.

I can't even think of anything right now.

I slowly face him and was waitinh for his explanation. Please, Echo... what do you mean?

I was holding back the tears that are ready to fall.

"I-I mean.. I am not your boyfriend.. and you are- not my girlfriend..." then he look down.

He knew I was hurt. He can see it from the way I look at him.

"Ha ha." A weak laugh. "Yeah.. I'm sorry.. I went overboard. I was over reacting.. about, you know... the things.. that happened to us."

Why on earth did I start this conversation! What am I thinking?! Ijust want to hide and never show my face to him.

"No.. Mai.. I like you.. we have this special relationship.. you can tell me the things other people cant tell me.. you're wonderful"

He likes me? Those words made my hopes high. Maybe.. There's a chance for us to--

"BUT" he said. Three letters, big word. He like me but...

"...but we can't be together.. If everyone find it out.. the press would freak out! My fans will go crazy...."

I'm so full of it! I hate him for making me confused. For hurting my pride and ego!

My eyes can't help it.. tears started to fall.. continuously.

I stand up and walk away.

But then.. somehow I want to make him guilty. To feel sorry for what he said.

I stopped and said..
