Summer Evans wasn't your average 16 year old girl, she was what people would call an 'outcast,' but nobody would describe her as that. Everyone that knew Summer said she was a quiet simple girl, although that was just a cover up. Summer's close friends often said she was rather outgoing and fun, but even that was a play. Summer had a dark secret that she didn't plan to tell anybody, not today at least.

Although Summer was a quiet girl, she was a rather popular person. People would swarm around her, maybe because of her great beauty, or maybe because of her humor. Either way, Summer had many friends. Although Summer's friends were one thing, her best friends were another. Halina, who's name was Hawaiian and meant "woman of serenity," was Summer's, not blood, sister. Then there was Jayden, who was like Summer's overprotective big brother. See, Halina and Summer were the same age, while Jayden was almost 18.

Summer lived with just her dad because her mom had died when Summer was only 3, due to cancer. Before her mom died, they moved into the house right in between Halina and Jayden. I guess you could say they became friends rather quickly. Summer's dad was her biggest fan and gave her everything she could ever want. Although for Summer, growing up was a difficult time. As Summer aged, her happiness drifted away and became replaced with severe depression. Her dad knew about this, but didn't make Summer do anything she didn't want to; he was always understanding like that.

It was maybe mid February and I had completely forgotten about Valentine's Day. Jayden had knocked on the door, rather early I might add, and since my dad wasn't home I had to get up and answer it. I was still really tired and couldn't quite tell anything apart from reality right now, but when Jayden yelled "Happy Valentine's Day," I was wide awake.

"Happy Valentine's Day," Jayden had yelled and handed me a bundle of red roses.

"Aw, thank you" I said sleepily while hugging him.

We both walked inside my house and upstairs to my room. I put the roses in a vase and crawled back into the comfort of my bed, while Jayden sat on the edge of my window seat.

"I really missed you." He said, slowly walking over to me.

I yawned and lousily ignored his remark.

He came over to my bed and lied down right next to me, pulling me into his warm arms. "I missed you" he said to me again, but this time whispering it into my ear, which sent chills down my spine. I was half asleep, but I acknowledged him this time and whispered, "I missed you too," then slowly dazed off in the comfort of Jayden's arms.
