I looked at the brown napkin stained with inky numbers as I exited the store, tucking it into my jean pocket as I approached my car. It was a black Jeep, a real beauty. As I was reaching for the handle of the door, a familiar auburn glided towards me. Verxielle.

"Verxielle." I said.

She paused in her tracks to look up at me. "What?" She said softly.

"I'm sorry." I got in and slammed the truck's door shut, revving out of the cafe's driveway.

"Luke Robert Hemmings!" I heard my mother shriek from the kitchen as soon as I entered the house.

"What do you want, Mum?" I groaned.

"I told you to be back by 5, not 5:10!" She walked out, her floured hands on her hips.

I sighed. "I'm sorry. I was out with Michael."

"Sure you were." Mum snorted, trotting back into the kitchen.

"I swear, I wasn't out with girls this time!" I mumbled as I untied my shoelaces, sliding it on to the shoe rack.

"Mhm." Mum casted a suspicious glance in my direction, then sighed and continued chopping up some mushrooms.

Taking two steps up the stairs, I stepped into my room and began shuffling through my closet and drawers. I picked out a pair of white shorts and a fitted black tee. As I was pushing my hair around, looking at my reflection when it moved all of a sudden.

My reflection ducked and rolled under my legs, chuckling.

"How's it going, Luke?" He gave me a crooked grin. My clothes and appearance melted off my reflection, revealing a maroon tank top and navy blue cotton shorts paired with aviator sunglasses that sat on his brunette mop.

"Luka!" I reeled him into a hug, laughing. His body felt cold and hollow, as usual.

"You haven't came out of the mirror for quite a few months now. Why today?"

"Well Luke," He drawled in his British accent, "I come bearing news about myself from my world."

I frowned. "What's wrong?"

"They gave me a real special gift." He stated, walking about my room picking up random things.

"What gift?"

"The gift of prophecy." His face broke into a wide grin.

"That's great!" I exclaimed. "Does it work?"

"Yeah, it does. It's scary." He shuddered, running his fingers through his hair.

"Does it work on you?" I ask softly.

He pushed a book towards my pillow. "I don't know, man. It might. I saw someone's future a couple of minutes ago." He chewed his lip.

"Who is it?"

He looked at me. "Yours, Vanessa, the boys. But be careful, she's very important."

"Vanessa? She plays a role? In my future?" I scoffed. I met her an hour ago, and now she plays an important role in my future.

"Naaaaaah." I could hear sarcasm dripping from his voice.

"Luke?" Mum called from the dining room.

"Oh damn, the guests must be here."

I heard loud footsteps, then my doorknob jiggling. "Luke Hemmings!" My mother yelled.

"Oh! Um, give me a minute, I'm almost done!"

"She misses you." I whisper as he began walking towards the mirror.

Luka gave me a sad smile. "I know."

He walked back into the mirror, not looking back as he faded into darkness. The surface of the mirror rippled as I stared at the spot that he had stood a few seconds ago.

The door gave out a sharp whine, alerting me that someone had entered my room.

"Luke, are you talking to yourself again?" Mum chuckled, walking towards me and leaning on my bed frame.

"Um, no, I wasn't. I was just toying around with my hair." I mumbled as I felt my face heat up.

"Well then Luke, your hair looks fine. Go say hello to our guests." Mum eyed my feathery back.

"Tuck it in sideways, do you need your band?" She murmured, going over and lifting my wings as she made a x shape with it. I handed her a soft elastic band and she slipped my wings through it and patting the feathers.

"Clip them after dinner, okay?" She asked softly as I hugged her. I nodded, grabbing my jacket.

"Be quick, the guests are waiting." She said softly Mum before pulled the door shut. A large sword glimmered on my nightstand, then shimmered. Now I saw a tiny pair of scissors.

"I get it Mum, don't need to show me everything we have in the house." I mumbled as it turned into a butcher's knife.

I could hear mum chuckling softly as it disappeared as I exited the room, doorknob clicking softly.
