"I'm back!" I called out to no one in particular, stepping into the foyer of my house, and shutting the door behind me.
"Alright hon', I'm just in the kitchen!" My mom's muffled voice sounded over the sound of running water.
The click clacking of canine feet came towards me as my yellow Labrador, Draco, bounded over to greet my arrival. Draco was named for none other than Draco Malfoy of Harry Potter, a book series I loved. Really, I love reading just about anything in general, typically associated with a steaming mug of highly sweetened coffee.
I scratched behind his ears and then headed upstairs to change out of my dirty, sweaty softball gear. Today was the last day of my two week softball camp. Today was a bit revolting, as one of the girls fell and scraped her leg up real bad. Blood was like, everywhere.
I hate blood, I hate it with a burning passion. I can't even see a drop without gagging. That's why I don't really want to follow in my parents' footsteps. Sure, the pets you get to treat can be cute, but being a veterinarian is about a lot more than the animals. It's all about medicine and operations and shots and... Well you get the picture. It's just not for me.
Once I reached my bedroom, I shut the door and peeled off my clothes, throwing them in the laundry bin by my closet. Throwing on a loose tee shirt and some shorts, I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I'm wider than most of my friends, and a bit overweight. But honestly, I don't really care. I eat healthy and stuff, it's just my body type. My parents are pretty big too. Quickly, I pulled my long, dark hair out of it's current ponytail, ran a brush through it, and headed downstairs to work on my summer studies or something.
As soon as I entered the kitchen, my mom had rushed over to me, some papers clutched in her hands and a huge smile on your face.
"Guess where your going for two weeks!" she beamed.
"Umm..." I was about to say something, but Mom stopped me as soon as parted my lips.
"A two-week sleepaway camp for veterinarians in training!" she squeaked, jumping up and down.
I frowned. "But mom... I don't really want to be a vet anymore. I hate blood. And vets like you and dad see blood all the..."
Mom cut me off spontaneously. "Oh that's just silly! You'll love this camp!" But her smile lowered a bit as she continued, "Plus, your father and I already paid for this, so you're going."
"But-"
"No buts about it, Aubrey. It'll be fun, anyways. So, how was your last day of softball camp?"
I heaved out a sigh and sat down at the kitchen counter, and Draco plopped his rump down beside me. Absentmindedly petting him, I looked up at my mother. "Well, it was hot, like it is in early July... but you know, it was fun..." I drifted off, picking the bright green polish off of my nails.
"Well, that's nice, hon'."

Monday morning, I was wakened by the hollers of my dad.
"Aubrey Kathryn Love! Get your but up or you'll be late for the bus!"
Groaning loudly, I literally rolled out of bed, hitting my carpeted floor with a thud. I got up and pulled on some jean shorts, a tie-dye tee shirt with one edge tied with a hairband, and some Adidas sneakers with white socks. Grabbing my bags to bring for camp, I headed downstairs, Draco at my heels, tail wagging. I put my bags by the front door and stalked into the kitchen.
"You're not going to brush your hair?" Mom chuckled. I glanced at my reflection in my cell phone screen that I had retrieved from the table in the foyer where it was charging. My hair was sticking up everywhere.
