I think that most of you know the drill now when it comes to this story, but I just want to remind everyone of the heavier themes of this story. If you don't deal well with depression or similar themes, this serves as your trigger warning. Regardless of the theme of the story, I hope that you all enjoy the chapter!
"This feels so much like high school," Jesy remarks wistfully, shifting her position on Jade's bed so that her head is now resting on Leigh-Anne's stomach while her legs settle across Jade's lap.
"I don't wanna sound too cliché," Leigh-Anne begins while absentmindedly twirling some of Jesy's silky hair around her pointer finger, "but when it's just the three of us sitting around and gossiping like this, it feels as if we're still sixteen and struggling to get through all of that trivial shit we dealt with in high school."
"Technically, it's only been a few months since I was in high school," Jade states pointedly, her gaze fixed on nothing in particular as a distant look clouds her rather vacant eyes.
"The other day, Norma told me that you woke up and started getting ready for school," Jesy reveals while attempting to stifle her laughter, "She said that you came downstairs for breakfast with your backpack and everything."
"I suffered severe head trauma!" Jade defends, reaching for the pillow next to her right shoulder and swatting at Jesy's head with it, "Cut me some slack!"
"Be careful! I have a baby on board!" Jesy wails overdramatically while pretending to appear helpless against Jade's rather mild attack, "I was considering making you godmother, but with your current behavior, it's obvious that you don't care about neither me nor my child!"
"Keep hitting her Jade!" Leigh-Anne encourages enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling playfully as she watches her two best friends bicker, "If you keep this up, I'll basically be guaranteed the godmother spot!"
"Not gonna happen, Pinnock!" Jade counters in an unabashed tone, unexpectedly flinging the pillow at her dark-skinned friend and hitting the girl square in the face.
"You did not just do that..." Leigh-Anne growls in a low tone while glowering at Jade, trying not to succumb to laughter as she watches Jesy break out into a fit of giggles in her periphery, "You're going to pay for that, Jadey."
Jade's eyes widen frightfully once she registers the mischievous glint in Leigh-Anne's eyes. Jade's immediate response is to scramble off of her bed, however, Leigh-Anne easily detects Jade's intentions and lunges at her friend, unintentionally including Jesy in their scuffle as she reaches across the pregnant woman to pull Jade closer by the back of her oversized sweater.
"This is assault!" Jade shrieks theatrically, yet allows Leigh-Anne to drag her back onto the bed for the sake of their playful fight.
"Says the girl who chucked a pillow at my face first!" Leigh-Anne rebukes, climbing over Jesy slightly so that she can attempt to pin Jade down onto the mattress and tickle her mercilessly.
"Wow, some personal space would be great right about now!" Jesy shouts over her two friends, wincing as Leigh-Anne accidentally knees her in the side.
Leigh-Anne and Jade disregard Jesy's complaint, continuing to tussle both on and next to Jesy while exchanging light-hearted insults and threats. As much as Jesy wants nothing more than to forcefully shove both of her irritating friends off of the bed, she can't help but allow their scuffle to continue as she revels in the fact that all three of them are together and messing around just like how things were before Jade's unfortunate accident.
