Chapter 4

I woke up this morning feeling refreshed and insanely nervous. It’s 5:30 in the morning which is enough time for me to get ready. I padded my way over to the bathroom and peeled off my pajama’s. I waited for the water to reach a nice enough temperature. I jumped in, letting my skin absorb the steam. I used my coconut smelling body wash and vanilla shampoo. I hopped out and pulled on a robe. I quickly put in my contacts as I went back to my room. I opened my box with all my dance stuff in it.

I was pretty nervous applying for this job. I wanted it pretty badly and I knew I couldn’t screw up. I decided on a gray leotard with some grey boy shorts pulled over it. I put on this flowing grey cardigan over it, it had enough sparkles on it to make it look decent. I loved this outfit so much. I usually put it on for practice runs or for new choreographies. I’m mainly a modern/contemporary dancer, but I also do ballet, pointe, jazz and so forth. I hope that when I go down there I'm allowed to learn new things as well.

I pulled my long wavy brownish-black hair back into a pony tail and whipped it into a bun. I walked to Lily’s room, it being now 6:45, and decided to wake her up. She needed to be ready for the café and get her stuff ready for college. I went back into the cramped space called a bathroom and worked on my makeup. I didn’t do my usual routine. Instead I found myself using mascara and eyeliner, using a hint of silver glitter to cover the wings I drew on my face. I put on my usual pink lipstick which made my face glow and walked to the kitchen. I grabbed a banana and got my stuff together. My mind wandered about the dances for today.

As for my choreography, I was going to do a piece I put together a while ago. I did it to Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran and I had always loved that piece. It's one of my favourites. In my bag, I had my phone along with some snacks and water of course. I put in some extra clothes and shoes.

“BYE LILY GOOD LUCK!!” I hollered throughout the flat as I put on my blue high-tops. I heard the same response but containing my name.

I walked outside, locking the door behind me, as I ventured out into the Bradford air. It felt humid but not too bad. Once again I saw those strange girls from the previous nights. The do look a lot like me but I wouldn’t go as far as to call them my real family. My adopted parents never said anything about me being from England so I should just forget about it. I don’t even think I have an accent. I walked a little quicker when I saw their car pulling out of the driveway and slowing down as they drove past. Me being me felt self-conscious and kept my head down. I was right around the block from the dance studio when my phone rang, displaying the time. It was almost 8.

“Helloooo?” I did my impression of Marcus Butler, which of course didn’t work out.

“Hi umm who is this?” I heard a sweet little girl ask on the other line.

“Depends who is this?” I asked back in a rather sassy tone.

“This is Waliyha” she replied, she sounded no more than 12 maybe 13.

“Well Waliyha I‘m Amber, may I ask how you got my number?”

“I got it from the directory, I wanted to meet the new neighbors and so did my mum so I looked up your address.” she explained in an absolutely adorable tone.

“That means you already know my name though.” so then why was she asking me?

“Yeah I do, its just we have the same last name and I thought it was weird.” wait what. I stopped walking on the side of the pavement which earned me some pretty strange looks from people who were trying to get past and hurry off to work but I don’t really care at the moment.

“Huh that is strange, I’m not home at the moment but maybe we could meet up for some snacks and I can get to know you lot sound good?” I asked back in the little voice I could muster.
