Knowing I was getting into another fight, I prepared. I was warmed up a little from running. I haven't fought in a while. Adam was waiting in their "gym", which was really the basement. There were weight sets all over. There were mats underneath all of them, and a few mats in the middle for what was about to happen. Adam was on the other side of the mats, waiting. A few people were gathered around us, but not many.
"You'll be beat, good luck." Adam yelled across the room.
"You wish. Let's get on with it." I yelled back, with a smirk on my face.
"Alright, settle down. Now, rules are you cannot use objects to hurt the other, only hand to hand combat. Once you have the other pinned you have to hold them down for three seconds. Are you ready?" Amber asked both of us. We both nodded our heads as a signal that we were.
"Get ready, get set, Go!" She blew the whistle. It's game time.Everything was out of mind and out of sight. Only thing I focused on was Adam. He threw the first hit as I ducked and spun my leg out tripping him from behind. He fell but took me down with him. We wrestled on the floor, his breath close to my ear and my heart racing as we fought. He was on the ground long enough for me to attempt to pin him. Didn't work. Instead he turned he around onto my back. I flipped him over and pinned him down, my arms holding down his chest and shoulders while my legs were tangled in his yet still pinning them down.
"1" I said, counting to three.
"Your really doing this?"
"2" I nodded my head yes in the process.
"God damnit your too strong"
"3" I said, squealing inside. "I know I am Bob." I was smiling and I was proud. I thought that with all the training he did that he'd beat me. I guess not. As I was getting off him, I looked back at Amber and she smiled, mouthing "Good Job!".We headed back upstairs, announcing that I won. In the middle of it all, we heard multiple cars pull up. But I was the only one who could actually hear their thoughts, other than Nick. I looked at him. He looked back, he expression saying we need to get the hell out now. I nodded. I slowly crept and made my way through back to where my bag is and pulled out my pocket knife. Apparently I wasn't quiet because they turned to me. I put a finger to my lips, signaling that hey might be able to hear us. I started hearing everyone's thoughts, and the scary thing is I can't stop it. I want to. I hate hearing them.
I crept slowly and quietly to the kitchen towards the back door. I opened the door to see the sight of several officers ready to attack. I quickly shut the door and locked it then moved the table in front of it. I ran back into the main room and alerted the others. I took my bag, and they took as much as the could of their items and headed down to the basement, with Adam locking the door. Apparently their basement isn't just their gym, they have another room behind a door. As soon as it opened we got in and locked it. Hopefully if the officers get in the house they'll think it's just a closet or storage room.
I looked around and saw that it was like the main room, just a bit different. Same walls. But the couch is a maroon colored and so is the chair next to it. They had another wooden coffee table but this was a different shape. Like the main room, this room had chairs and stools around. In the corner there was a stack of blankets and pillows and sleeping bags piled high. There were pictures in frames hung around this room. They were also all over the house too. There was a microwave and a mini fridge in another corner. If you walked out by the blanket corner there was a bathroom, which smelled like too much perfume and too much alcohol.
"This is our hideout. We have half of our weapons down here." Adam said, snapping me back into reality. I nodded my head yes as a response.
"So what do we do now?"
"They won't find us here. No one can get in unless you let them." A small voice spoke softly. Then a little girl came out from behind someone. She was just in pajamas, looking like she woke up. She held a small bear close to her chest. Her dark red hair was hanging down looking tangled, framing her face just right. She had dark blue eyes of the night. Freckles dotted her face lightly. She looked scared, like she knew something was wrong. From what I could tell, she was just an innocent little girl waiting to be saved.
"Lyrelle, what are you staring at?" Nick said, waving a hand in front of my face. I looked back at that spot and the girl was gone. I shook my head in confusion, there's no possible way a ghost just talked to me. No way.
"Nothing. We need to fight back with what we got."
"No, that's just going to get us all killed." People were going on protesting on what to do.
"Well you got any better option? Because if not then we're all stuck in this damn room. If you want to survive and live, then we need to fight back with what we have. Because if we don't, we won't live to see the next few weeks, next few months or even the next few years. Look, you made this refugee to fight back and save our kind from being extinct. And that's what we need to do. We need to punch back, be back in the world where we can be ourselves without being judged. We know both sides of the story, of the war that happened. We've seen and heard what kind of things happened then. We've seen the enjoyment people had together long ago. But we've seen all the hatred towards us. We fought back before, and we're going to fight back now. Who's with me?" I didn't even realize how much I was talking until I was out of breath, but it felt good. Everyone was silent, waiting. Then suddenly I saw hands go up, murmurs going across the room. And there was suddenly a smile across my face. I looked over in Nick's direction and saw that little girl again. No one noticed the smile on my face turning into worry."If you do this, people will die. Secrets about the past will come back up. The ones you think are closest to you may just be against you. You need to be careful. You never know what will come up." She said in fear. I wanted to ask more, who she was, why she's here. Why she's helping me, or trying. I wanted to know her. Yet she may have made things worse.
Everything I heard and saw was a blur. I walked over to an empty corner, trying to catch the reality behind all this, trying to catch my breath. I turned around and was dizzy. I started to slide down the wall, watching the fear in Nick's eyes. He knew. He saw her too. He came over, his face wanting to know more too. I nodded my head, saying that I saw her too, that he's not crazy.
"Did you hear what she said?" I asked softly, not wanting the others to know. At least not right now. He shook his head no. "She said people will die and secrets will come up. I'm scared, what are we going to do?"
"What we are going to do is fight back. A girl I once knew said that if we want to survive, then we need to punch back and fight with all we got." We both smiled. We are going to fight back. We are going to win this time. I can feel it. And it feels amazing.
"Okay. Let's do it."
