Chapter Twelve

The next day at work was extremely morbid. Jin and Hobi didn't talk unless they had to interact with a customer. It didn't matter what I did to try to get them to speak to me; they just ignored me.

I sighed, long and loud, tapping my fingers in a steady rhythm against the counter. There were only a few people sitting inside at the moment, and it didn't look like they would be needing someone to wait on them anytime soon.

Lazily, I brought my gaze up to the clock above the front door, watching the seconds turn to minutes as the time ticked by. We had survived most of the day so far, but I was beyond bored.

On a typical day, I would be conversing with Hobi, or sometimes even Jin. The mood would be light and playful, but neither of the boys were in any kind of mood for that today. I worried suddenly that it might be this way for a while.

I groaned, placing my head in my hands, rubbing at my temples. In addition to being bored, I was developing a serious headache. I didn't know if we had any painkillers, but I figured I would just wait until I got home anyway.

Ever since the first kiss with Yoongi, I had stopped going over to his place all the time after work. I would occasionally, but only if I was asked. Things were still a little bit awkward, and I didn't want to think about what it would be like alone with him at his apartment.

Tonight I was just going to go home, relax, and go to bed early. I had my fair share of losing sleep because of worry over the past week, and I desperately needed to catch up.

My eyes slowly found their way back to the clock, and I watched as the seconds ticked by painfully slow.

"Hyorin," Jin's voice came from behind me. I turned to face him, an eyebrow raised in curiosity. He held out an envelope to me. "It's your pay stub."

I nodded, taking the envelope from him. "Thanks."

An awkward silence settled between us.

"Are you okay?" I asked carefully. His eyebrows drew together, lips turning down into a scowl.

"I'm fine," he said shortly. With that, he turned around, leaving me alone behind the counter.

I sighed, turning my attention back to the clock. That was the response I'd been getting from both boys all day: "I'm fine". Obviously neither of them were.

A few more hours passed of complete silence and boredom. Unfortunately for me, I had to stay and lock up today, so I had to stay later than my typical hours. I was working new hours as well – from ten in the morning to eight at night, so I probably wouldn't get home until nine.

When eight finally rolled around, Jin and Hobi left without a word. I was left completely alone to finish cleaning and closing up.

As I predicted, I didn't get done with everything until nine. By the time I was finally able to leave, I was absolutely spent. I wanted nothing more than to just go home, shower, and go to sleep.

I locked up the front door, then headed to the back room to grab my coat. I flipped all the lights off and went out the back door, locking it behind me.

The sidewalks were pretty clear, considering it was only nine o'clock. I made my way home, intent on getting there as quickly as I could.

I had only been walking for about a minute when suddenly, an arm was thrown across my shoulders, pulling me against a hard, warm body. Startled, I looked up, only to find the beautifully expressionless Min Yoongi.

"Hey, babe. Let's get home quickly, okay?" he said, his dark eyes piercing mine.

Confused, I raised an eyebrow at him and opened my mouth to speak, but before I got a word out, Yoongi was forcefully pulled away from me.
