Chapter Sixteen
The train station was full the next morning. Apparently there were many people coming in and out of Busan that weekend. I didn't wonder why – I was far too tired to think.
It was still early yet. Yoongi and I hadn't gotten back to the hotel until ten p.m. and I'd had a hard time falling asleep. The thoughts in my mind had refused to quiet down, even when Yoongi wrapped an arm around me while he slept. If it hadn't been for him, I wouldn't have woken up on time that morning.
Now, we stood in the train station, luggage in hand, waiting for our train back to Seoul. I was leaning against Yoongi, still a little groggy from waking up far before I wanted to. He stayed still for me, which I greatly appreciated.
Suddenly, I wondered what I meant to him. We weren't together – not officially, anyway. But after all that we'd been through . . . I just didn't know.
Yoongi shifted. "Hey, the train's almost here."
I yawned, lifting my head off his shoulder. I picked up my luggage from its spot by my feet, trailing behind Yoongi as he headed forward to wait.
"Hyorin!" someone yelled from behind me. I started, looking around for the owner of the voice, but I saw no one. It's probably not me they're calling for anyway, I thought.
In the next moment, a hand was on my shoulder, spinning me around. Startled, I came face-to-face with my father. I blinked at him in surprise, then tossed a glance over my shoulder at Yoongi. He was watching us with alert and concerned eyes.
Carefully, I turned back to face my father. With a sinking heart, I noticed my mother now stood at his side.
"What?" I asked, wanting to get to the point. A look a hurt crossed both their features, and a part of me felt bad.
"We came to apologize," my mother spoke up. My eyes widened. They what? "Hyorin, we never meant for you to be hurt because of all of this."
"We only want the best for you, sweetie," my father added. "Jungkook seemed to be the best candidate for marriage. We wanted you to have a solid future."
His words trailed off as he glanced over my shoulder at Yoongi. I narrowed my eyes.
"So, what? You came here to apologize and then insult me for my choices?" I demanded, wide awake and pissed now.
"Hyorin, that's not what we're here to do," my mother interjected. "We admit we were wrong. Jungkook is not your perfect match. Though I can't say we approve of . . ."
"Min Yoongi," I said, unsure of where this was going.
"Min Yoongi," she repeated. "We may not approve of him, but if he makes you happy, then that's what we want. More than anything, we just want you to be happy in life. You're our only child, Hyorin, and if Yoongi makes you happy, then we'd be proud to call him son."
I gaped at her. I could not believe that just came out of her mouth. For the longest time, she pushed Jungkook at me, and now she was telling me that all she cared about was my happiness?
"Do you really mean that?" I breathed, not sure if I should believe it.
Both parents smiled at me and nodded. My father spoke up, "Of course we mean that. Your mother and I love you."
My eyes watered, and I quickly blinked away the tears. Finally I had what I had always wanted – my parents' approval.
A hand fell on my shoulder. I glanced back, meeting Yoongi's dark eyes.
"The train's coming in," he said simply. I smiled and nodded, bringing my hand up to squeeze his.
I turned back to my parents, who watched me with a certain degree of sadness in their eyes. My father was the first to open his arms.
