SASCHA

Mom was furious when she heard about what happened. And for once, she wasn't worried about her metal baby. We could afford another one of that, she said. Why keep me in misery all this while then?

Unfortunately for me, Mom could not see the humour in the situation.

"I have to talk to that excuse of a boyfriend-druggie."

"Mom please, let me handle this. In spite of what he has done, I can't let him get into trouble. I need to talk to him first. Please keep him here."

"Ok. But I have informed your dad and he is coming here, by late afternoon."
Oh no. Dad was worse. How would I talk him out of it?
She ringed the bell just then. And like the last time, the nurse came just a few seconds later.

"Ma'am, you may have to wait outside while we check her up."

"Where's Dr. Mehra?"

"He'll be here in a few minutes Mrs. Brewston."

I could understand Mom was angry but she couldn't just be rude to about anyone.

"Mom, I'll be fine. Wait up outside."

With that said, she gave an angry glare to both me and the nurse and left.

"I'm sorry about that, nurse."

"It's okay Sascha, I understand what it is like to be a mother."
We made small talk while she checked my vitals until the doctor came.

"Are you sure you do not want to levy charges?"

"Yes Dad."

"But I want to see that boy punished. You can't just let him go Sascha! He has to get what he deserves!"

"I understand Mom, but think about it, I have known him for more than 3 years now. He was always there when I needed him. Being let off the hook is the biggest punishment he could get."

"But-"

"Besides, I don't want my rep getting affected adversely. Please you both have to support me on this. I have to stay away from controversy. I can't let this ruin my last year or my life. His guilt will always stay with him."

They stayed silent.

Harry had already been told about this and although he didn't tell me anything regarding my decision, because according to him "you decide your own and it should be that way when you know what you want", I knew he was angry over the fact that Derek actually hit me. And if the news that came later about Harry punching Derek was anything to go by, I knew they would never be friends for any future lifetimes. Somehow, it warmed me.

Fortunately or unfortunately, he had to leave for New York to shoot their next track. And anyway, why would I say no? I wasn't more important than his work. It was sweet of him that he came down to Mumbai all the way just to see me even though I hadn't spoken to him for nearly a month.

"Louis told me you were in trouble two days ago...I'm sorry for not keeping in touch. I thought I should stay out of it for a while so that you and that ass could settle things down. I really didn't want to get involved."
