"Oh for goodness sakes Harry I wish you would be more prepared when it comes to school books. You either don't have the ones you need or they're all muddled up and you can't find the right ones" Hermione groaned, as we sat on the train to Hogwarts.

After the battle of Hogwarts, where I finally defeated Voldermort after 17 long years, I had decided it would be best to go back to Hogwarts. Even though my ambition was to become an Auror and I didn't need school for that... I thought it would be best to keep my options open. Hermione wanted to give house-elves more rights so she decided that for herself she needed to be well educated so that was her reason for going back. Ron was just genuinely coming along for the ride. He wanted to become an Auror like me and he decided it would be best to go back as it would look good on him and it would stop his family and Hermione nagging at him.

"For once I am actually prepared Hermione. I have all my books that I need for my final year and they're in the order that I need them and I will try to keep them that way" I stated, feeling rather proud of myself that I'd just outsmarted and proved the amazingly clever Hermione Granger wrong.

"Well there's a surprise then" Ron snickered at him.

Hermione hit him with one of her books before I could even process the friendly insult.

"Oh Ronald you're no better than Harry is. In-fact you're even worse than he is. I'm going to talk to Ginny. I will see you guys later" Hermione huffed, as she left the carriage.

"Bloody hell what's got her knickers in a twist. Yeah I didn't get up as early as I could've" Ron laughed.

"Your funeral" I replied, chuckling at the pair.

So Harry. What happened between you and my sister. I know you did no wrong and we'll still be best mates but I just want to hear it from you" Ron asked kindly. I heard no hint of anger or malice in his voice.

"We sort of grew apart when me you and Hermione went to hunt for the Horcruxes. Naturally she wanted to be close to me but I couldn't put her in danger like that. Then when she asked why I let you guys do it all with me I explained to her that we had all been in it from the beginning and were practically inseparable so it was natural that you guys would want to come with me. Then she wanted to get married straight away and have kids and I didn't want to do that straight away. I wanted to process some thoughts and reflect on some things. Naturally she didn't like that and got angry about it and it blew out into this fight and she said I never cared about her. Ron. I can assure you that it's not true what she said about me not caring about her because I really do. I'm not in love with her and I wish we both realised it sooner before we caused all this aggravation for your family" I explained, looking down at me feet hoping Ron wouldn't go mad.

"Harry mate I'm sorry for you. No-one in my family is mad at you. My mum still thinks of you as a son and I as a brother and best friend. I will admit that you guys didn't seem like the ideal couple and she was more interested in you than you were with her. It's not your fault. Ginny will get over it she always does. It'll take time but she will. Thanks for telling me that. I'm gonna go check on her and Hermione. catch up with you later" Ron said.

He gave me a one-armed hug and walked out of the carriage, closing the door quietly as he went.

As I began going off into a deep thought I heard the carriage door open.

"There's no-where else to sit. May I sit with you Potter?" I heard a voice ask. I knew that voice only too well.

"Malfoy?" I looked up, wondering what he was doing here.

"Ever since you saved my life and we talked a few times my friends have rejected me. So.. Can I sit with you.. Please?" Malfoy half pleaded.

This was so unnatural for Malfoy, even if he did have a softer side to him.

"Yeah sure go ahead" I replied, gesturing towards the seats opposite me.

Instead of following my gesture Malfoy chose to sit beside me.

"What is it you want Dra.. Er.. Malfoy?" I questioned hesitantly, stumbling over his first name.. Unsure if he wanted me to use his first name.

"Well Harry... I wanted to thank-you for saving my life. I know I have thanked you before but I wanted to come and do it again. You have no idea how much that meant to me and my mother. I know you could do nothing about my father receiving the Dementor's Kiss and me or my mother never expected you to do anything. It was inevitable. .. Of course it was going to happen... So... Once again... Thank-you for saving mine and my mother's life" Draco said.

For once he didn't hiss or sneer his words at me. He also called me by my first name.

"It's fine. My pleasure" I replied, turning to face Malfoy fully. I offered him a smile and he returned that to me with a smile of his own, a rather polite one at that.

"Oh and Harry. Since we're on speaking terms and I'm using your first name you may as well use mine. I see it's only fair" Draco stated, shifting so he could get more comfortable.

"Okay Draco. Have you prepared yourself for the reactions that people may have?" I questioned, looking for any signs of deception in his eyes and I found none. He was all clear. I could always slip a bit of Veritaserum into his pumpkin juice. Then again I was only ever good at Polyjuice potion.

"Yes I've thought quite a lot about that but then I realised that I'm Draco Malfoy and I don't care for others opinions on me or whom I associate myself with. Well, there are few opinions that I care about.." Draco trailed off, leaving me curious.

"Why whose opinions do you care about?" I asked, the curiosity getting the better of me. Stupid mouth. Speaking without thinking. As per usual.

"Well there's my mother's for one. Since I've lost all of my friends it's not them anymore. Then there's yours-" he started. I had to cut him off.

"Y.. Y.. Y.. You care about my opinion. I never knew that" I stammered, his words knocking the wind out of me.

"Well you saved my life and I started to see you differently. Oh and look. We're here" Draco stated.

He was right. I glanced out of the window and saw Hogwarts standing tall and proud. I am so surprised how well they had done with the repairs.

"Wow the exterior looks great. Wonder what they've done with the interior" I exclaimed.

"Well are you ready to be seen with a former Death- Eater?" Draco sarcastically said.

"Draco. It will be fine. People will need to get over themselves" I said opening the door to the carriage.

Well here I come 7th year of Hogwarts. I've gained an unlikely friend.
