Charity
I looked at the house standing tall in front of me and sighed before heaving my bag higher on my shoulder and entering my home. Well not so much my home as my family's home. I just went straight to my room, not feeling like anouncing my arrival.
Looking around my room, I frowned, noticing how some things had been moved around since the last time I was here. "Damned Kay," I grumbled and instead of shouting at her like I usually would, I just went to our storage room in the attic and grabbed a few of our many unused cardboard boxes. Bringing it back to my room, I sat down with music in my ears and started going through my crap.
The house was so large that no one noticed I was there until three days later. I hadn't been trying to make my prescense known, but it still surprised me how truly unaware they were.
I had already packed up all my stuff, sent a lot of it to charity and had painted my room a nice white-ish color. My bed had been replaced by a normal king sized bed, no four posts or anything. I had moved my vanity table into my huge closet. My closet was near empty, but I kept my boxes stored in there.
"Charity?" I blinked and looked up from my position on the floor. Mother was standing in the door, looking at me in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"Just came to visit," I said simply, not anger or resentment in my voice. Her blonde hair was in a tight bun as she stood tensely in her straightened suit and low heels.
"When did you arrive?"
"Three days ago," I shrugged and stood back up. Her eyes landed on my dress and her blue eyes got a distant look to them. I hated wearing dresses when I was younger, and I'm still not all that fond of them, but it was hot moving around and the summer dress was very comfortable to move around in.
"You kept that?" she asked me quitely. "Of course I did," I frowned. "It was a birthday present, I keep all my gifts." She looked positively surprised.
"Oh... Well I was just about to get some dinner, do you want to come with?" she wondered. I just nodded and put on some sandals then followed her into town. We didn't live far away though, so the silence didn't really bother me all that much.
"So, how come you decided to come visit?"
"Well... I've been thinking a lot and I figured that I should come here and just... Move on. This place has caused me a lot of stress and trauma, and I want it to be over," I said honestly. She blinked a few times with her salad in front of her. I was eating some kind of chicken salad as well, only mine had way more meat than hers.
"That's... Wise," she said quietly, nodding her head.
"Yeah," I agreed. "I'm just going to be blunt and say you're one of my problems," I added now, figuring that since I was alone with her, I might as well try to talk to her.
"What?" she frowned, looking beyond offended. I sighed and just nodded slowly. "That's absurd, Charity."
"No, it's actually very common sense. You never treated me like your child. I was like that annoying little niece or something that you couldn't get rid of."
"Because that's how she felt." My blood ran cold as I looked over to the voice and saw none other than my little sister.
"I'm not talking to you," I said coldly.
"Charity, don't be rude to your sister," mother frowned, crossing her arms. My jaw dropped now. "Are you fucking kidding me!? She just insulted me, right in front of you! And you're scolding me. You're unbelievable."
"Stop acting like such a spoiled brat, Charity."
"Okay, you know what? I'm done. Absolutely done. Mom, or wait- no, Natalie," I spat now. "You win the award of being the worst mom in history. I wish I wasn't your offspring, but I am, so since you clearly don't give a flying fuck about me, I'll leave you be. After this day, I'll leave and never come back, okay?" I gave her no time to answer as I just nodded and said: "Cool."
