New hobby

Charity

I wandered around the café I had gotten a job at and looked at the random books there, occasionally putting a book in the right place.

It was one of those large cafés with hundreds of books there for people to read or buy, and I absolutely loved it. I got a discount on books even!

This had become my new hobby instead of all the partying.

"Hey blondie!" someone called at me obviously and I gritted my teeth but turned around and my eyes almost popped out if my skull.

"Oh my gosh!" I squealed and ran, jumping into Craig's arms. He chuckled and hugged me back tightly. "I missed you."

"I missed you too, so did the rest of my family," he said and carefully placed me back on my feet. I took his hand and pulled him with me to sit down, but not before asking my boss, Lauren, who didn't hesitate to let me sit down with my friend.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him and he rubbed the back of his neck, looking kind of shy.

"I'm here to visit my girlfriend, she's working here for a few months," he explained and I gasped in surprise.

"You got a girlfriend?!" I exclaimed excitedly and he nodded with an adorable grin. I reached out to give him a hug and he hugged me back.

"How did it go with you and that boy band guy?" he asked me and I bit the inside of my cheek and shrugged slightly.

"I told him he needed to love himself before he could love me. So I won't see him for another month or so," I explained and he nodded slowly, listening to me telling him the full story.

"I think you need to cut him a little slack. The guy is in love with you. Staying away from the girl you love for even an hour is nearly impossible.  Two months is a nightmare," he said and I nodded slowly. I miss Liam a lot but we both need this.

"Lana's wedding is in three weeks, I'll see him then," I tell Craig and he says that's "fair enough". "So what does your girlfriend do?"

"She's an nature photographer. She's working for this company now that wanted to see the Good vs Bad of London. I'm not sure what that means but she loves the challenge."

"That's really cool," I admit and he agrees.

"Oh, mom and dad insisted I bring you this," he said and handed me a gift. "Since your birthday passed." I smile at the neatly wrapped present before I told him I'd open it later. We talk for a long time before I tell him I want to meet his for dinner tonight. We part with a hug and I apologize to Lauren for taking such a long break.

After work, I walk the short distance home, but I buy some groceries on the way. At home, I look around and smile at how nice my place looks. It's perfect.

Since I've just spent the last two months working, I've earned quite a lot of money. Lauren even made me assistant manager, so I have a higher salary. The main reason why she did this is because I'm there every single day, I've read a lot of the books there, so I'm able to talk to the customers about them as well and give suggestions.

I look through my mail and find a letter from France.

As I open it, I put on the kettle to boil some water.

My dearest Charity,

I read your letter and I'm so sorry you've felt this way for so long. After thinking for some time, I've decided to divorce your mother.

I gasp and reread the sentence, not believing my own eyes.

"What?" I whisper and pour my tea before I sit down on the couch to keep reading.
