"I can not wait for the first day of 1st grade, Mommy! We get to play outside at recess on the big kid's playground and there are NO naps! AND Evan is in my class! It's gonna be the best year ever!" I exclaimed while eating my cereal. My mommy rolled her eyes and smiled at me while she made my peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch.

I heard a knock on the door and I ran across the house to get it, knowing that it was my next door neighbor and best friend in the whole wide world. First grade was going to be the best year ever.

I ran outside for recess with Evan and shouted "Race ya to that tree!" We started running across the playgound towards the tree.

Once we were both standing beneath the tree out of breath he smirked at me and said "I won!"

"Did not" I smirked and said back.

"Did too."

"Did not!"

"Did too!"

"Did not!"

"Did too!"

By now we were laughing and shouting at each other.

"Did not." I said in a calm voice and smirked again.

Evan smiled at me, and I felt something grab my hand. I looked down and noticed Evan was holding my hand. I looked back up at Evan and his blue eyes met mine. He grinned and said, "Wanna go play on the monkey bars?"

I smiled and said "Race ya!"
