I woke up to some strange noise. It sounded like someone crying. I looked at my alarm clock. The screen read 12:17. I listened to the sobbing, and then I heard someone speak. Between the sobs, I heard my mom say "How could this happen?"
Why was mommy crying? What was she talking about? I heard my dad speak in a low soft voice. He said "How are we going to tell Ali?"
"HOW DO YOU TELL A SIX-YEAR OLD THAT HER BEST FRIEND IS DEAD!?" my mom said, raising her shaky voice.
"Shh! You don't want to wake her up," my dad whispered loudly.
Evan.
I crawled out of bed and opened my door. I saw mommy and daddy sitting in the living room. I walked down the hall towards them and they both turned to me. I noticed the tears streaming down mommy's face, and I think I even saw one tear slip down daddy's cheek. "What's going on?" I asked nervously.
Mommy pulled me in to sit on her lap, and took a deep breath. "Honey," she said slowly, "Evan and his mom and dad were... They were in a car accident today."
She wiped the tears from her face, and I felt hot tears forming in the corners of my eyes.
My dad looked at me sadly and say, "They didn't make it sweetie... They..." He took a deep breath. "They died..."
"No," I said slowly. "No!" I shouted. "Evan isn't gone!" I exclaimed angrily. I ran into my room, slammed the door, and curled up in a ball on my bed. Tears were streaming down my small face.
Evan was my best friend, and now I'll never see him again. It wasn't fair. I cried until I finally fell asleep.
