I gestured for my friends to quiet down as I picked up my phone to call mom, who had already     sent five messages in the past two minutes.  She answered instantly, and began to yell at me for leaving the house without informing her first, at least that's what I could make out over Diana and Justice's constant arguing over if hot sauce was meant for fries or not. ( Which it isn't. ) I calmed mom down long enough for her to tell me that I had family coming over later, and that I better be there or I was in huge trouble. I hung up and looked over to my friends, rolling my eyes. "Gwen coming over again?" Louis asked, snatching a fry off Justice's plate. Gwen is my younger cousin, probably the most annoying 12 year old to ever walk the earth, but her and Autumn get along just fine, despite the obvious age gap. I nodded my head and faked a smile, sweeping my bag out of the floor and standing up. "Wait, you're out already? I thought we were hanging out later!" Alex protested, throwing a straw wrapper at me. I tossed my car keys in my hand and bit my lip, "Sorry hun, probably tomorrow. Mom's really on my ass today about being home.". Alex faked a frown and climbed over Diana, who smacked her back in protest. She put a hand on her hips and stuck a tongue out at Diana before turning to me. "Give me a lift then?" she asked, raising a suggestive eyebrow.

"Sure, but we gotta go now." I replied, grabbing her wrist and waving a goodbye to everyone else. We climbed into my car and pulled out of the parking lot. The drive was silent for the most part until I turned into Alex's neighborhood. "Ok ok, so I heard something." she said, flipping over in her seat so that she was facing me. "And what did you hear?" I asked, turning down the radio to listen. She shifted a bit in her seat and gripped the console between us, her green nail polish catching a glint of light as she did. "Well, Louis mentioned some girl from Kendly. He said that they'd been talking for a while now, over facetime and stuff." she said quickly, pulling at her floral cardigan. My face began to burn slightly and my eyes narrowed at the road in front of me. "Facetime and "stuff"? What does that even mean? Why would he tell you that Alex?" I asked, pulling into her driveway.

Alex sighed gently and grabbed her bag out of the floor board, hugging it to her chest. "That's what we were talking about before you got to Mark's. I don't know why he told me, I just know he did." she adjusted her T-shirt and opened the car door, stepping out. "I'm sorry Summer, I know you really liked him, but look, it may not mean Jack-Shit. You know how things are." she said, shrugging a little before she started to step away towards her front porch. I knew I couldn't be mad at Alex for telling me this, but something inside me thought the situation felt off, so I just flashed her a light smile and pulled out, mumbling a small thanks right before she shut the passenger door.

I just didn't get it, I have had a crush on Louis since he showed up, but he chose some girl from Kendly Highschool, a place two hours away from Hayden. Kendly was what people called a "dump town", and most of the people I had met from there were trashy. I just didn't understand how he could've chose someone two hours off in a rat town rather than someone right in front of him. I was pretty enough, plenty of guys liked me. I looked down at my phone and saw that Diana had texted me, I decided to read it later and tossed my cell over to the passenger seat next to me. I wondered if she knew too, and how I hadn't if she had. Diana was the type to tell everyone's business except hers.

I loved her, but she was terrible at keeping secrets. Alex was a much better person to tell my secrets too, which was why she was my best friend.

I pulled back into my driveway and grabbed my phone, not bothering to take my purse inside since I'd probably be leaving again soon anyways. I tapped in the code to our garage door and stepped inside. Autumn was sitting in the floor with her our cat Birdy, while mom was washing her hands in the sink. "Where's Gwen?" I asked, relieved that I had made it there before my family, and sat down at the dining room table. "They'll be here in like, and hour. I'm helping make dinner." Autumn replied, leaning back to look at me, her green eyes flashing as the light caught them. To be quite honest, I didn't like the idea of Autumn helping cook anything, considering her hands were deep in Birdy's fur at the moment. "Doesn't look like it. Make sure to wash your hands first, Kay?" I motioned to the cat and unlocked my phone, scrolling through my Instagram.

"Haven was at Mark's earlier." I noted to her, glancing over to see her wipe cat fur off her black nike shorts that she always wore. She leaned against the kitchen counter, looking down at her barefeet,"I have her in Algebra. She's nice. ". Mom looked up from what she was doing back to me then to Autumn, "Is that where you were Summer? At Mark's? Did you eat already?" she asked, wiping her hands down with a napkin. "I told you that Mom, and no." I responded, closing my phone. "Yeah, she told me she knew you. You should invite her over sometime, she doesn't have a whole lot of friends yet." I told Autumn, walking into my room. She started to talk again, but I closed the door before I heard what she had to say.

You see, that's one of the moments I regret. Closing her out was a daily affair of mine, but I never thought that one day I wouldn't be able to. Autumn closed me out instead, in fact, she closed us all out..
