The sun was beginning to set while we started back. The walking was keeping me awake, but I wanted nothing more than to curl up and go to sleep. Kris held my hand as we walked. It was a nice feeling; besides, I was glad that one of us knew which way to go.
“Tomorrow,” he started. I looked up at him. He glanced back. “Tomorrow I will teach you to fight with your body. You cannot phase like we can, so that is all I can teach you.”
“Don’t even think about taking it easy on me,” I warned. “Teach me as if you are teaching a pup.”
“You’re even learning to speak like us,” he mused.
I nodded and yawned. We arrived at the den. Most of the other pack members were fast asleep; only Tao and Luhan were awake, waiting for us. My eyes fell on Tao. Sheesh, he’s scary looking.
Luhan got up and went into the den as we walked up. Tao bared his throat. “They’re all asleep,” he said.
“You go, too,” Kris said. Tao ducked his head and went inside. I followed after Kris and spotted Chanyeol curled up on the floor, back-to-back with another pack mate. I tiptoed over by him. Kris was following me now.
Chanyeol blinked and looked up sleepily. “Amber?”
“Yep. Go back to sleep,” I said softly, patting his shoulder. Kris laid down with his back leaning against the wall. Chanyeol scooted on the floor until his head was resting on my leg. Kris rumbled, but I waved him off. To calm him down, I leaned back until my head was lying on Kris’ lap.
I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
When I woke up, I was immediately met with a sickening pain in my stomach. It was still dark outside. I bit my lip, cringing. Ugh… I sat up. A pained breath managed to escape, and Kris opened his eyes. He tilted his head, awake immediately.
“Your face is pale,” he said. “Are you all right?” He leaned away from the wall and laid his hand on my forehead.
I brushed his arm away. “I’m fine.” I looked down at Chanyeol, who was still fast asleep.
Kris gently pulled me away from Chanyeol and leaned me against the wall next to him. I was shaking. He took off his jacket and draped it over me. “You feel cold?”
“Thanks,” I said, pulling his jacket a bit tighter.
“You’re sick,” Kris said. “I will get Lay to help you if it’s not gone by morning. Try to go back to sleep.” He put his hand on top of my head and pulled me towards him until I was resting on his shoulder.
I couldn’t fall back asleep. I was shaking too much, and my stomach was killing me. Kris looked down at me with a concerned expression. “You really are sick,” he murmured. “Are you hungry?”
Food did not sound like a good idea. I shook my head. “No, thanks.” I closed my eyes and leaned against him. I could hear birds chirping outside the den, so I knew that dawn wasn’t far off.
Kris stroked my hair and sighed. “You’re shivering a lot. Are you that cold? You feel hot.”
“Of course I feel hot. I am hot,” I muttered.
He sighed again. “How can you joke now? Are you still teasing me?”
“You’re learning,” I mumbled, scooting closer to him. “I’m freezing.”
“They will be awake in a minute,” Kris said. “Do you want me to wake Lay now?”
“No, let them sleep.”
