I stretched as I woke. The ache in my stomach was gone, and I didn’t have any chills. I glanced over at Kris, who was still sleeping. He had a frown on his face even in his sleep. I reached out and very gently poked his forehead right in between his eyebrows. His face relaxed, and he had a peaceful expression.

I squeaked in surprise as his arm reached out and wrapped around me, pulling me closer. My face reddened. I listened for a moment. His breathing was regular and slow; he was still asleep. I slowly raised my eyes to his face. Even in his sleep, he looked serious. Peaceful, but serious.

I softly brushed his hair away from his forehead, moving my arm in front of his face. When I brought my arm back down, his eyes were open, and he was staring at me. I jolted, startled.

“Sheesh!” I hissed, careful to be quiet. I poked his chest. “Be subtle when you wake up. Yawn or something.”

He rolled his eyes and looked down. “Why are you hugging me?” He asked.

My face reddened. “You pulled me over in your sleep.”

“Well, now I’m pulling you over when I’m awake,” he announced, tugging me closer until my head was resting against his chest. “Your fever is gone, so I guess that medicine helped.”

“I have a wolfy question,” I said quietly.

“What?”

“When you fight…do you fight to the death?” I asked.

He blinked. “It depends on what challenge started the fight. If someone was challenging another wolf, it would be a fight until submission. If someone were to challenge an Alpha or Beta, it would be a fight to the death.”

I froze. Luhan’s challenge… He wants to kill me. If I fight him and actually get an advantage…I’d have to kill him. “Why?”

“If an existing alpha loses to a challenger and lives, they will always try to gain power back. That twists the loyalties of the pack and separates members. It is the same with a Beta.”

I grunted. “I suppose that makes sense…”

“Out of curiosity, why do you ask?”

“Oh,” I said blankly. “I was just curious.”

Kris’ eyes met mine. “Amber,” he said. “Did one of the wolves challenge you?”

“No,” I lied. I closed my eyes. “Huh. Are you and I fighting today?”

“If you feel well enough, we can begin.” Kris leaned his forehead against mine. “You’re in a fighting mood today, aren’t you?”

I shrugged. “I get antsy when I’m bored.”

“How can you be bored when you are surrounded by handsome werewolves?” He mused jokingly.

I blinked. “Did you just make a joke?”

He frowned. “No, I was being serious. I have been told that I am ‘not bad-looking.’”

I rolled my eyes. “Are all wolves as pig-headed as you?”

“I am not pig-headed. I am superior,” he growled playfully. “You are only a human.” He blinked before yawning and sitting up.

I sat up, too, and smiled when I saw Chanyeol sleeping, using my leg as a pillow. Kris growled under his breath and pushed Chanyeol’s head off my leg. Chanyeol snorted, waking up. When he yawned, I saw that his teeth were sharp. When he blinked sleepily and smiled at me, they were back to normal.

“Morning, lil’ sis,” he said. He took a deep breath…and coughed, covering his nose. He shook his head. “Um…whew… You…”

I sniffed. I didn’t smell any farts or anything. I pulled my shirt up and smelled it. It was starting to smell like I’d worn it for multiple days in a row—which I had.
