Fate walked over to an empty table to eat her lunch in silence, hoping that Mina and Luna, the two girls who claimed to be her friends, wouldn't come over. And, as fate would have it, they plopped down right in front of her and started yapping away. She didn't really have this kind of patience, but all the other tables were full already, so she didn't have a choice. Fate sighed, "Don't you two have things to be doing other than pissing me off?" she asked, letting the anger flood her voice. The two girls laughed. " In a bad mood. As always." Mina smiled to herself as Luna nodded her head feverishly in agreement. Fate raised and eyebrow," Shouldn't that be a sign? You know, to stay the hell away from me?" she chewed her hamburger with more force, hoping that they could take a hint.
"No way!" Luna smiled cheerfully. " Us Guardians have to stick together, even at regular school. And besides, I think that Ren Toyoga has the hots for---" she started, but Fate interrupted her with an intense stare. Luna and Mina looked at each and nodded, silently comunicating with each other. " I did hear about a little fight between the two a few years ago..." Mina whispered over to her. Fate stood up," If you're going to whisper, you should at least learn how. And if you aren't going to take your conversation elsewhere, I'm leaving. Good. Bye." she said firmly as she dumped her leftover food in a nearby trash can and left the school cafeteria. It was a pain going to the same school as him, even after two years ago. There was no way she could take this.
" Uh, Fate Rosaran, right?"
Fate turned at the sound of her name to a boy with shoulder-length black hair and blue eyes and a nervous smile. "Yeah, why?" she said, facing him. His face turned a bright red," Uh, well, you see...." he trailed. Fate looked at him," Riiiiiight. Well, I have somewhere to be right now. Talk to me later when you've got the stuttering together." she turned around. But he grabbed her hand," Wait. My...my name is Victor Domino, and well...I'd like it if we could...." he trailed off again. "If we could what?" Fate was suddenly intrigued. After thirty seconds, there was still no answer, so she turned around and walked off again. And just like before, he grabbed her hand. " If you have something to say, then spit it out already!" she yelled.
But she could have ever guessed what happened next.
Fate's eyes widened as their lips met. It was a warm feeling, something she hadn't felt in a long time. Just as she was about to pull away, a familiar face caught her eye, and that made her stop. So Ren was watching. Whatever. He'll regret tossing her aside. Just to mess with him, Fate closed her eyes and sunk deeper into the kiss, wrapping her hands around Victor's neck. After he let her go, she couldn't help but blush. "Um..." was all she could actually say. Maybe kissing him wasn't such a bad idea, and not because Ren was only peeking over at them now. Victor smiled, "Listen, Fate. I'd really like it if we could hang out sometime." he asked, his face turning a lovely shade of red. Fate attempted a laugh," Wow. First you kiss a girl, then you ask her out. Strangest aproach I've ever come across. But, what the heck? I'd love to do that." she said truthfully.
She waved to him as he walked in the direction of the cafeteria, and she smiled smally. So, Victor Domino. Not a bad-looking guy to be honest, and he seemed nice enough. Fate was so lost in thought that she accidentally bumped into someone. "Sorry, I wasn't looking!" she said, picking up small notepads and pens. The last notebook seemed to have a name on it. Damn. She handed it to him, " Oh. It's just you." she said, turning away. Ren sighed," That's no way to talk to an old friend, is it?" he mocked, taking it from her. Fate looked back," What friend? As I recall, I was asked not to speak to the friend ever again. Now, if you'll excuse me." she said as she walked away. She had some training to do before she went to her next class.

"Very good, Fate. Your magic skills have improved!" her teacher praised her. She was ahead of all the younger Guardians in every class, and completed more missions too. But for some odd reason, it never went to her head. " Thank you, Teacher." she said, throwing a towel around her neck. " Thanks to your hard work, you have an assignment. The Elder Guardians have caught wind of a strange rumor. The tabloids are saying that there are monsters showing up in the city of Garmosa. We need you to investigate immediately." her teacher handed her a dossier and hurried her out the door. Fate sighed.
"Looks like my Victor will just have to wait a while longer."
