"Call back?" Sharpay's over dramatic scream fills the hallways of East High. Although, no one pays attention to it. Everybody at this school knows that whenever Sharpay screamed, it is because she didn't get what she wanted, and frankly, no one cared.

Except me, because I knew what she was mad about.

Ryan stood beside his sister, unfased by her outburst. Instead, he also was staring at the call back list, looking mortified. As I am approaching them, I could overhear what the frazzled boy is saying.

"Call backs for Arnold and Minnie on Thursday at 3:30 P.M, Auditorium. Ryan Evans and Sharpay Evans. Amelia Wells and Troy Bolton. How could this even be possible?" Ryan sneers, looking in my direction. With both Evans glaring at me, I decide to let them ridicule me before I could unload any snarky comments.

"Is this some sort of joke? You didn't even audition!" Sharpay yells, flinging out her arms in anger.

Unimpressed by her insult, I respond with a less hurtful remark. "No, it's just that some people are actually better than you at some things."

Her mouth gapes open, while she looks over at Ryan. "Did she just—?" He nods his head and continues to scowl at me, most likely trying to be intimidating.

"Oh yes, sweety, I did." I answer, a smile spreading across my face.

Before they could recover, Chad and the basketball squad come behind us and ask what's wrong.

"Her!" Sharpay accuses, stomping her foot and furiously walking away, the sound of her heels hitting the floor hard.

After she leaves, Chad looks at me, confused. "What's up with her?"

I point at the call back list and watch the team stare in shock.

"I didn't realize you liked Troy." Chad mumbles.

"Whatever you say, loverboy."  I remark, exiting the auditorium into the hallways. I don't get very far before Troy stops me.

"Wait!" He yells, running up to me.

I stop in my tracks, turn around, and roll my eyes. The sound of his footsteps become more quiet when they reach me.

He doesn't even have to catch his breath when he opens his mouth. "You're doing it again." He informs.

"What?"  I ask, annoyance edging my voice.

"You rolled your eyes." He states with a smile. "You're cute when you're mad."

Subconsciously, I roll my eyes and respond. "And you're annoying when you attempt to hit on me."

"You did it again!" He exclaims, innocent laughter filling the air of the empty hallways.

And for the first time, Troy Bolton left me speechless.

Instead of trying to think of a simple sentence, or even a word, to respond, I join in the laughter. I didn't mean to, or even want to do it. It just happened, and I couldn't stop myself, for countless of seconds.

When the laughter subsides, the familiar ringing of the class bell echos and leaves Troy and I in panic. We scramble back into the auditorium, pick up our bags, and head our separate ways.

"I'm sorry—What did you say?" I ask, hoping that I didn't hear Chad correctly.

"I said, I didn't realize you liked Troy." He speaks louder.

This time, my mouth gapes open. "What!" I yell.

"Nevermind, I gotta go have a talk with your singing partner." He responds, stomping away.
