Prologue; How Things Happened

**Jeffory's POV**

The sword was through my stomach. I could feel my life force slowly draining as I fell to the ground, Zane ordering his guards to 'clean up the mess.' My eyes fell shut, as I breathed what I thought would be one of my last breaths as I coughed up blood. Then...the window shattered. A girl with brown hair stood there, her eyes seeming smug, even though I couldn't see her mouth.

Then, she spoke, "Seriously, Big Brother, I always have to clean up your messes, don't I?" My eyes widened in shock, and I would have screamed had I been able to. 'Mari?!' My mind was racing. No way. It was impossible. I was there, I saw her be burned alive. In any case, how in Irene would she have been able to find me?

She slayed the guards around her with one swipe, and Zane took out the window. I didn't bother with him, "M-Mari... W-What are you...doing...here?" I strained. She tutted.

"Seriously, Big Brother, you always get in some of the most desperate situations." She stopped the bleeding with what I assumed to be healing magicks. Then, a white-haired Mief'wa came through the broken window.

"Mari, stop showing off and let's get out of here. Guards are coming, on top of that, he's going to die if we don't get him medical help soon. You may have stopped the bleeding, but if it gets infected, he's a goner." The girl said in a flat tone.

Mari nodded, "Right. We need to get to the base. Use the air to fly us back." The girl nodded. I just sat there, utterly confused, through the whole thing.

**Time Skip to the Base**

There were two more people at the base waiting. One was a guy, he kept a stern look on his face for the whole time. I decided I'd best be wary of him.
