Chapter 1: An Unusual Recipe

Pinkie Pie's POV:

I woke up with the smell of cakefrosting entering my quivering nostrils. Gummy, my pet alligator, bit my ear, although it didn't hurt so much because he doesn't have any teeth. Mrs. Cake trotted into my bedroom with Pumpkin Cake on her shoulder. "Pinkie dear, can you take care of the early bird customers? Somepony here needs to get her nappy changed!" she said indicating her small filly. "Of course!" I said happily jumping up out of bed. I walked over to my mirror and tried brush out my mane, but the pink hairs stubbornly bounced up as usual. But that didn't break my cheerful spirit! Running over to the counter, I saw that Twilight Sparkle was first in line. "Twiley!" I embraced her awkwardly over the glass counter. "Now how can I help my cutest, friendliest, smartest pony friend?" "Well," she answered. "I'm meeting Princess Celestia in Canterlot tomorrow, and we're discussing princess matters. Anyway, since we're having tea, and I know that Sugarcube Corner have wonderful cakes, so I thought I'd get something for us here. I think Celestia has a taste for chocolate and strawberries... so, are you up to it? If you're not too busy of course..." "A cake for PRINCESS CELESTIA?! OF COURSE we're up to it!" I answered and gave a little happy squeak. "Excellent. I'll pick it up tomorrow morning. Bye now Pinkie!" Twilight said. I waved as she left the parlour. "Now HOW may I help you?" I asked the next customer with a smile.

Today was a very busy day, but at last I got a break. With nothing else productive to do, I wanted to just bake something out of boredom. I skimmed through the recipe book, but I couldn't find anything that could challenge me. As I was about to close the hard covers of Sugarcube Corner's old collection of recipes, I noticed that the last two pages were ripped out! Out of curiousity and anger, I searched the newer recipe books for the ripped out pages. I finally found it shoved between the last two pages of "Sugar, spice & all things nice: Christmas Special". "Yes!" I exclaimed. On one of the out-ripped pages, the recipe was a simple triple chocolate fondant which looked double-yummy, but what I found on the page made me confused and intrigued: a recipe for a... portal?! I looked at the strange ingredients. Unicorn hair? Dragon tail's scales? I thought it was a joke! I decided to try out this strange mixture anyway, so I trotted to Twilight's house. I mean, she was a unicorn, and her assistant Spike just happened to be dragon so I thought I could nip a scale of his purple tail. But, I didn't want them to know what was going on, so I had to be sneeky! I impatiently waited for Twilight to answer the door after knocking hard with my hoof. When the purple unicorn opened the wooden door, I burst out an unpleasant "Finally!" to her face. Twilight Sparkle was shocked and covered in ink.

Twilight Sparkle's POV:

"What are you doing here Pinkie?" I said startled. I glanced at the clock inside my house, (which happened to be a library, by the way) and it was just after lunch time for Pinkie. "Your shift started fifteen minutes ago," I continued. "Oh, no no, I switched my shift with Mrs. Cake's this morning. Babies, you know!" she said chuckling. I chuckled too. "So... why are you here again?" I asked Pinkie Pie. "Oh right! Well I wondering if I, uh, could borrow your mane brush?" Pinkie Pie asked. I knew Pinkie had several, so I raised an eyebrow, but gave her my mane brush all the while. "Thanks!" Pinkie said cheerfully. "Can I-uh speak to S-Spike?" she said. "Anything for you." I said and rolled my eyes. I went inside and Spike came out of the front door.

Pinkie Pie's POV:

My plan was going great! "Here ya go!" I said and handed the purple dragon a cupcake. "O boy! What flavour is this?" he said. "Oh, you know, vanilla" I told him. Spike muched on about half of the cupcake before he passed out. I had drugged the cupcake. I knew it was wrong, and I felt awful,but it was a necessary precaution. I dragged him behind the library, and took out my tooth pick from my invisable pocket. I took out a scale from his tail and as I did so he winced. "I'm so sorry..." I mumbled. I slapped his face lightly to wake him up. "Uh? What-WHAT HAPPENED?!" he said, and his head shot up. "You fell alseep, silly!" I said laughing. He laughed too. "Well I gotta go Spike, see ya later! Oh and please give this to Twilight, will ya?" I said, handing him the mane brush after I swiftly pulled out a few purple strands of Twilight's mane. "Sure thing!" Spike said and took the mane brush. I walked to Sugarcube Corner and saw two disappointed faces waiting for me at the counter. I gulped.

After getting told off for missing my shift and "being a disgrace to Sugarcube Corner" I went straight to bed, as it was getting very late. I snuggled under the covers and sighed in relief. The portal will just have to wait.
