Chapter 8

--------------

"So, whats wrong Redfeather? You looked this way at the Thunderpath when we where kits." Lilypaw clawed the grass at her paws.

Hesitation hung in the air before Redfeather sighed and mewed, "When I was a kit, a little older than you at the time we crossed the Thunderpath, my sisters and brothers and I had an... accident." Her eyes fill with grief and memory as she dug up deeper that she ever had.

"We weren't old enough to leave the camp, but our curiosity was to strong. So we left... To the same Thunderpath, you will be going to on the rat hunt. We crawled over the black surface, the ground rumbling at our paws."

"But you were kits! How did you make it so far?" Lilypaw interupted.

"We followed a rabbit, till it crawled under the Thunderpath. Eventually, after giving up on crawling under the Thunderpath, we started to inspect it.Me and my two sisters and three brothers, gave up. The first time it rumbled my sister, Poppykit, with brown eyes and golden fur, was worried and stepped off the path. But my oldest brother, Grasskit, with green eyes brown fur with white chest and cheeks and stripes like a tiger, convinced her it was fun. My other sister, Fawnkit, green eyes with brown and black patches and a stub of a tail, said to her 'Yeah! Don't be a mouse-brain! Grasskit is always right!' she growled, making Poppykit shrink back in fear, muttering, 'Yes, Fawnkit...' she slinked forward onto the Thunderpath, paws shaking. When she first touched it with her paws, it was scratchy and poked her paws. She shook her head in disgust. But I immediately pounced on the Thunderpath, giggling as it rumbled, and the wind of the monsters shook my fur. Suddenly my brother ,Tumblekit, a brown kit with black stripes and yellow eyes, yowled, "Theres the rabbit!" He turned to Grasskit who nodded his head and growled, "Get him!" Grasskit streamed across the path, followed by Poppykit, Fawnkit, Tanglekit who was white with gray spots, and then Tumblekit. I was the last one, and I stopped short when bright lights surrounded me. Once Grasskit reached the other side, he turned to make sure his conpainions where right behind him. I wasn't, frozen solid in the light. His gaze flicked from the monster to me, before jumping forward and grabbing my scruff. Letting out a yowl of protest, I was dragged acrossed the path..." Redfeather went deep into her memory, feeling like it was only yesterday.

She was standing there staring at the spot she was only moments ago. Panting she looked from one kits expression to the other. Fawnkit was glaring at her, her claws racking the ground. "You almost killed him!" She snarled, fearing that her littermate was almost dead.

"Fawnkit! Your sister was almost killed to!" Poppykit growled, standing next to Redkit, ready to defend her. "Guys! Don't fight!" Tanglekit yowled, standing between the two snarling kits.

"Out of my way!" Fawnkit hissed at him, baring her teeth. "Shes gonna pay for what she just said to me!" Yowling she lunged at Poppykit, who let out a squeal of surprise at Fawnkits seriousness and the sharpness of her claws in her pelt.

"Grasskit! She'll kill her!" Tumblekit yowled over the noise.

"I know! But what can we do?" He asked feeling helpless.

"You'll just sit her and let your sisters die?!" Tanglekit growled.

"What else can we do?" He pleaded.

"You will never be a warrior!" Tanglekit hissed, fury pricking his pelt, he turned to his wrestling littermates, and begain calling their names.

Anger pulsed through Grasskit, and he leaped at his brother, falling short, as pain went though his tail. Turning he spied Tumblekit gripping his tail between his teeth. Dropping his brothers tail he muttered, "Not here, not now." Before turning and jumping into the fight. Tanglekit managed to pin down Fawnkit, who had a scar down her spine all the way to her tail. And Tumblekit got Poppykit to her paws, but she was shaking with the effort, and panting in pain. She was far worst than Fawnkit. Her eyes were nearly closed, a long scratch tearing over both eyes. Her tail was bleeding badly, blood slattering on the floor, her stomach a huge gapping claw mark. Blood soaked her pelt, as she stumbled to stay on her paws. Eagerly licking her wounds, Redkit and Tanglekit tried to revive their littermate, but she only panted and flopped to the floor.
