In my house, things are not what they should be. My parents are always on edge about where I am, and if I'm out too anywhere past the designated time, they'll completely freak out. One minute late coming home from school, and I'm grounded from the library for 6 weeks. The LIBRARY. Because that's just one out of three places I can go; I can go to school, the library, or to Grandmother Elizabeth's house in Kansas. I mean, who am I kidding! Who would I see at the library, anyway? Librarian Gina? Even she's tired of looking at my pathetic, boring face! I just want to have fun, but noooooo! Every time I want to go for a walk, my mother panics. Like I'm a baby or something. Please. I can handle myself. If I wanted to be babied, I'd just wear a diaper. What's worst is that I can't go to school dances, parties, or even see my best friends at their houses. They always have to come over to my house, and my parents have known them as long as they've known me. My life sucks ass, and it's pathetic how I can never have fun.

After school, I saw my mom, who waited in the parking lot for me at the closest spot possible. God damn. I'm not running away or anything. Then again, that's not a terrible idea when it comes to thinking about my current circumstances. Hayley, one of my two best friends stood with me as we walked over to my mom's car. Hayley usually came over after school, but Carly, my other best friend, had to work. Because she had a life. Unlike me. Hayley was smaller yet curvier than me, and I was smaller. She had pretty, long Auburn hair that never had dead ends and nails never needing touch ups because when she wasn't with me, she was at the salon having hair and Nails done. Because she also had a life. She was about 5'2 with a small, round face and braced teeth. She never wore elaborate makeup, but she always had on mascara and red matte lipstick that made me jealous, even as her friend. Hayley was gorgeous, and took after her parents, who were also beautiful people. I, on the other hand, was about 5'4, with long, deep Brown hair, blue eyes, naturally tan skin, and I never wore any makeup. My mother never bought me any, I never asked, or bought. As we got in the car, my mother was singing along to the radio music, and living it up. Living. Have I mentioned I don't do much of that, either? She turned it down as she pulled out, so she could talk to us. "Hey, girls. How were your days?" She asked. "Okay" we both responded. I looked back at Hayley, who sat on the middle seat, filling in homework answers. She anxiously waited for me
to ask my mother something. I already knew what the answer would be, and so did Hayley, but she still thought it would be a good idea to give it a shot. I was about to ask my mother if I could go to a party tonight that Hayley's boyfriend was throwing. Friday night. "So, mom.... You know how my birthday is in a week?" I started. "Yes, I'm aware. Where are you going with this, Ambrosia?" She asked. "Well, Hayley and I were wondering..... wouldn't the best early birthday present to let me go to a party with Hayley and Carly? Please, please, please, please, please don't say no right away. Just remember that I haven't even experienced what other kids get to. And I'm almost 16, so why could it hurt me to go?" I asked her. "Ambrosia, we've already discussed this many times again and again. No, you may not go to the party to tonight. You know your father would say the same thing. You may go home, do your homework, and you can even watch a movie and order takeout with your father and I" She told me. I rolled my eyes. My mother pulled up to the drive way of our house, and I got out and slammed the door as fast as I could. I opened Hayley's door, and she climbed out. I slammed her door shut, too. We walked into the house, ran up the stairs, and into my room. My father sat in his study room, and I ran right past him. He sighed. I heard my mother walk in the door, and close it. "You said no to a party, didn't you?" He asked. "Yup" She replied. "Maybe we should let her go" My father said. Yes, yes! Way to go dad! "Tyler, you already know why we can't let her go" my mother said. "I suppose" my father said. Damn it. I was so close. I closed my bedroom door, and flopped down on my big pink bean bag with Hayley. "Well, that's okay. You're almost 16, then we can do things like parties and dances together" She said. She lied through her teeth. It was not okay. "No, we're still going" I said. "We are?" She asked. "Yes, because I'm sneaking out with you" I said. "Ambro, I don't know" She said. "It's only a bad idea if we get caught" I told her.
