Carly Rhodes, my other best friend, is all around gorgeous, happy, and exciting. Carly naturally has a positive influence towards everyone in the school, neighborhood, and even town. Everyone she knows loves her, because she's that good of a person. She stays strong for everyone who can't be strong for themselves. Carly's short, wispy and curly brown hair was shoulder length, and her bright green eyes showed such positivity and hope for the world. She was small like Hayley and I, and thin. Carly wore a stripped blue and black crop top with spaghetti straps and short cut off jean shorts like Hayley. As she drove, she almost swerved into the sidewalk, and knocked over a trash can. "Whoops" She said. She stopped the car, picked up the trash can, and got back in. Most teenagers would have laughed. But Carly couldn't stand it if she had an enemy. She started driving again, sped down the straight without hitting or bumping into anything else. As we reached Stephen's house, the street became packed with cars, so the first spot we saw, we took. Carly parked the car and pulled the keys from the ignition. "Let's go" She said. Hayley hopped out the car, and opened the door on my side. I climbed out, suddenly feeling anxious. What if something terrible happened, or my mother and father caught me? Hayley could tell I was getting worried, and put her hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry. It'll be fun. Just have fun" She told me. I nodded, and followed her. Stephen stood on the porch with a red solo cup in his hand. His hair was dark brown, and he wore a black t-shirt that showed off his arms. He saw Hayley, and smiled. He picked her up, and spun her around. Hayley kissed him, and smiled, and held his hand. "Babes, you remember Ambrosia, my best friend? You've met her once before at school" Hayley told him. Stephen looked at me. "Ambrosia. Hi" he said, smiling at me. I waved. "I'm gonna introduce her to some people. I'll catch up with you in a bit, okay?" She kissed his cheek and slowly let go of his hand. Stephen smiled at her, and returned to his friends. Hayley was lucky. Stephen was actually a guy with alot of heart unlike some of the other guys at our school. He volunteered alot around school; I'd seen his name on things like donating to the animal shelter or cooking for homeless children and adults. Hayley led me into the huge crowd of people. The room was lit with a bunch of neon colors on the ceiling. Music boomed in my ears, and people raised their plastic cups in the air, as they jumped up and down or danced. Some people were making out in Corners of Stephen's seemingly large house. Some couples sat on pretty red chairs, and there were even some wallflowers at the party, the people who sat in chairs alone, silently singing to music. It was amazing. Just like I imagined. Hayley had grabbed my hand and led me through the crowd of people. She took me over to a boy who held a cup a in his hand, and was talking to someone. "Nathan!" Hayley called. Nathan turned his head and looked in our direction. He was pretty cute, with thick brown hair and deep tan skin. He was much taller and more lean than both of us, and he smiled at Hayley. To my surprise, she hugged him, and he hugged her back. "Hayley. There you are. Glad you came" he told her. His voice was deep. "Nice to see you, boy. Nathan, this is my best friend, Ambrosia" She said. He looked at me, and gave me a toothy smile. "Nice to meet you. How's it goin'?" He asked. "This is her first party" Hayley told him. "Really? Well, it should be good. Wanna get a drink?" He asked. I wasn't sure what to say. Drink? As in alcohol? I had never had a drink before. This came as a shock to me. As I was about to answer, Stephen, who was about a foot taller than both me and Hayley, stepped behind Hayley, and wrapped his arms around her. Hayley smiled. "Ambrosia, go get a drink with Nathan. Have fun. Be a teenager, crazy kid" She said. She turned around to face, Stephen, hopped up on him, wrapped her legs around his waist, put her arms loosely around his neck, and started to kiss him. I looked away, and cleared my throat. "So, how about that drink?" Nathan asked. "Umm.....Why not? You only live once, right?" I said. He extended his arm put to me, motioning for me to take his hand. I put my hand in his, and let him lead me into the kitchen. The light was actually on in there, and tall bottles of alcoholic beverages sat on the counter top. Most of them were a deep maroon color, or brown. Nathan grabbed a plastic red cup for me, and poured me a drink. "Is it your first drink, too?" He asked me. I nodded. "Here, why don't we talk first, and then you can decide if you want to drink. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable or pressured" he told me. "Okay. Talk about what?" I asked him. "You. Talk about you" he told me. "I'm not sure if you'd want to hear about my life. It's pretty boring" I told him. "Go for it" Nathan told me.
I smiled. This conversation would be interesting; he knew it, and I damn sure did, too.
