Chapter 2

AN: Hey I know its been a while but the lack of feed back hasent really been motivating me to write. I don't want to be one of theses writers that demands a certain number of votes/ comments before updating but it would be nice to have some feedback.

Chapter 2

Mason pulled up at the pack house in his battered old landrover. There were a few other cars parked already but it looked like he was one of the first. The back door slid open before he could knock and he was greeted by a smiling Felicity. “Hello Mason Dad asked me to let you know he wants to see you in his office before the meeting starts”

Mason nodded as he stepped inside “Thank you Felicity. I do believe you get taller every time I see you. You’ll be catching up with your sister in no time” He said with a wink

“Oh I defiantly plan on growing taller than Macy” Felicity replied giving Mason a sly grin returning his wink.

The Alphas office was on the 2nd floor and had thicker than average walls so that all meeting between the Alpha and his top wolves could be in complete secret. Mason approached the door stopping before giving it a firm knock. “Enter” The Alphas voice sounded from within. Opening the door Mason went inside closing the door behind himself.

“Ah Mason good to see you, have a seat Abby should be up to join us in a sec” Alpha Richards said gesturing to the empty seat to the left of his Beta. Taking the offered seat Mason glanced to his left nodding his head at Frank the Beta. The packs doctor Phil was also present.

Phil was just about to speak up when Abby entered the room taking the seat next to Alpha Richards. “ Sorry to keep everyone waiting some of the other pack members have started to arrive but I left Macy and Matt entertaining them.”

“ Best get this meeting done quick you know how rowdy the pack can get when its all gathered..” Frank tried to joke but trailed of when he saw the series look on the Alphas face.

Clearing his throat Alpha Richards began to speak “I’ve called this emergency meeting today because a concerning matter has been brought to my attention. Over the past week the number of rogue scents found close to our borders has been increasing” Mason opened his mouth as if to interrupt but the Alpha held up his hand to silence him before continuing. 

“ I know ordinarily a few rogues is nothing we can’t deal with but one of their scents matches the rogue from 15 years ago” He stopped letting this news sink in. “ We all know what sort of risk this Rouge poses having the ability to slip in and out of our borders without detection. We can’t allow him to slip away this time, I know rouges are known for being un cooperative with each other but with the number of unique scents at our borders we can’t guarantee there not working together. I don’t want to alarm the rest of the pack which is why I’m telling you this in private. I am however going to step up border runs and put the pack on alert. I’ve sent Kyle to gather more information on theses rouges I was hoping he’d have returned by now but I won’t delay the meeting now it’s been called.”

Silence fell over the room as everyone absorbed the news. Abby was the first to speak “I’m worried about Kyle if he should have returned by now perhaps we should look for him”

“I’ll go unless there’s anything else you need to tell us Alpha?” Frank announced getting to his feet
“Until we hear Kyle’s report that’s all the information I have and the sooner we hear it the better” That was all the permission Frank needed and with a nod of his head he left in search of Kyle.

Everyone else rose to their feet and slowly filed out the room. “ I think it’s about time for that meeting Abby can you gather everyone together in the clearing”
“ Of courses dear” She replied giving her mate a peck on the cheek before dashing off to gather the pack. Mason was always amazed when saw how strong the affection still was between the Alpha and his mate. Often wondering if had his mate survived they’d be the same.

Rose was not impressed to find a pack meeting had been called when she got home from school “there goes my plans with Lucas” She muttered to herself. Dumping her school bag down a bit to hevaly in frustration its contents spilling across the floor. Groaning she bent down to pick them up groaning again when she came to her maths book with a new set of questions to do. She’d even promised Lexi she’d do them herself this time, now with the pack meeting she might not even have time for that.

As much as she’d love to skip the meeting all wolves over 16 had to attend. Lucas would never even consider skipping either as one of James closest friends and most strongest wolves of his age he was most likely to be the packs future Beta. No way was she going to skip just to do homework. “Rose time to go” Her parents called from down stairs.   

Arriving at the pack house Rose made straight for Lucas wrapping her arms around him and giving him a lingering kiss. All the unmated males started making jokes while the females gazed on longingly. She had to hold back a growl telling herself they weren’t after Lucas just impatient at finding their own mates.

James approached the group where all the other wolves his age seemed to have gathered, dodging out the way of Amber as she tried to way lay him. “So James an idea what this meetings about” Lucas asked one arm still wrapped around Rose.

James shook his head “no this is the first I’ve heard about it same as you. I wish Dad would talk to me about more pack related stuff. If I’m supposed to take over one day I have to start practicing some time. He frowned in frustration. “ All I know is Dads had Mum, the Beta, the Theta and the pack doctor up in his office for the past half an hour. He wouldn’t even let me sit in.”
“ Careful there James your starting to sound like Felicity” Joked David.  Just as David was finishing speaking Abby came down the stairs calling everyone to the clearing.

James was one of the last out the door still in a bad mood from being excluded when he was tackled from behind “ Jamesy I wanna go to the pack meeting” He didn’t even have to turn around to know who it was only his sister Felicity called him Jamesy.

He turned around to face her “I’m sorry Felicity you know I can’t let you go. Less than two years and you’ll be old enough to join ok.” Felicity put on her best pouty face normally James would spoiler her but even she knew he’d never give on this. With a sigh she nodded and retreated back into the house.

James now in a better mood set of at a jog to catch up with the others at the clearing.  The clearing was where they meet for the full moon hunts as well because with over 200 pack members it was the only place they could all fit.

The Alpha began to speak explaining the situation “...so because of this I want to increase the patrols of the border. Everyone should stay alert but this increased activity should be over soon hopefully. Make sure any underage members don’t stray near the border.” He carried on with standard procedure measures about being carefully but not to worry and carry on like normal.

James switched off after a while. There must be more to this then that an emergency meeting was never called just for a few rouges even if there was more than normal. “what aren’t you telling us Dad” James muttered to himself so that no one else could hear.

The meeting was just coming to a close when there was a rustle in the bushing and Beta frank came into the clearing half carrying a very beaten Kyle. Phil instantly jumped into action rushing over to assist Frank helping him lower Kyle to the ground while starting to assess his injuries. Alpha Richards and Mason where next to Kyle’s side.

“Kyle can you hear me Kyle” The Alpha called urgently
“I..urg...” Kyle grimaced at the pain of speaking.
“Don’t force yourself Kyle. Alpha I need to get him back to the pack house so I can treat his wounds. I know you want to question him but right now his health is my priority” Phil started to bark out orders to people when it came to care of his pack mates even the Alpha couldn’t order him around.

Mason and Frank began to lift Kyle up to carry him carefully to the pack house. “wait..” Kyle chocked out grabbing hold of the Alphas shirt pulling him closer “ i-its worse t-than urg you feared... they where o-organised al-all most like a p-pack” Kyle managed to choke out before passing out.

Everything happened very fast from there the Alpha froze in spot absorbing Kyle’s report while Mason and Frank quickly got Kyle to the pack house. Phil and Kate his assistant and also mate set about work cleaning his wounds apply the special medicine passed down from pack doctor to pack doctor.

Phil and Kate worked for an hour most of the pack was sent home in a state of high alert. Only the Alphas family, his high ranked wolves and Kyle’s mate remained. Kyle’s mate had finally stopped pacing but her face was still tear stained. Abby rapped an arm around her trying to sooth her.

Finally the door opened and Phil came out just taking off his blood stained gloves. “ what news” a sombre Alpha asked before anyone else could. Sighing Phil ran his hands though his greying hair “we’ve cleaned all the wounds but he’s lost a lot of blood and is still unconscious. Only time will tell if he will recover. We’ve done all we can for now.”

Kate came out the room giving Kyle’s mate a sympathetic smile “I’ve set up the extra bed so that Kyle’s may stay with him. It will also help him heal having his mate close.” Kyle’s mate gave a grateful smile before rushing inside to be with her mate.

The Alpha turned to the remaining pack members “ I know we have a lot to discuss but I think fresh minds will be best for this lest all get some rest and we can discuss this tomorrow” They all nodded in agreement saying there fair wells.

Abby approached her mate slowly “It’s not your fault there’s nothing you could have done”
Alpha Richards shook his head sighing “I should have sent someone with him”
“then it might be two of our pack members lying in there fighting for their lives. Kyle has become one of our best fighters anyone else might have just got in the way”
Alpha Richards accepted Abby’s comfort but he still blamed himself, he’d have to think carefully before making his next move. For now he’d take his own advice and get some rest.
