"no, old man, she is not here." jack lies, emphasizing his words to the person on the other side of the door.

"old man? that's new." the voice says and i can't quite put my finger on it. "please tell her i stopped by."

"i'll pass on that."

suddenly recognizing the voice, i immediately jumped toward the door and jack turns his head to glare at me. he's obviously annoyed. i perk up at the male that stands before me.

"adrian." (ha you thought it was over)

"yeah." he smiles, scratching the back of his neck nervously because of jack's presence. "can we talk?"

jack watches back and forth between us, gauging my reaction. i nod my head, hoping that jack won't create a big scene.

"of course." i tell him and jack's eyes flash with anger.

just as i'm about to step in the hallway to speak with adrian, sam, johnson, and nate all are walking toward our room. they greet me and don't acknowledge adrian standing beside me.

"nova." jack's deep voice speaks up laced with warning.

"jack, i'll be fine." i assure him.

i wonder what he's here to talk about. we've been out of the loop for well over a month. i notice the nervousness and tension in the atmosphere. i shut the door after the guys head inside, knowing full on that jack's probably watching us through the peep hole.

"what's up?" i ask adrian, my back facing the door.

"how are you?" he asks, his voice soft.

"i'm good." i give him a smile. "what about you?"

"i'm great." he reluctantly replies.

i start to grow anxious, "what'd you want to talk about?"

"are you and jack..."

"yeah, we're together." i answer, assuming that that was what he wanted to ask about.

"alright." he breathes. "good thing i asked that before my next question. uh, it was good seeing you-"

"no, wait." i stop him by grabbing his arm.

he looks down at my hand and i let go, blushing a bit. damn it.

"you were going to ask me something else?" i raise an eyebrow.

"yeah, but it doesn't matter now."

"yes, it does. ask." i urge him.

he bites his bottom lip, "i was going to invite you to my brothers wedding. you know, to be my friend or whatever-"

"i'd love to go." i respond, cutting him off.

i'm sure jack wouldn't mind if i went as a friend.

his eyebrows raise, "are you sure?"

"positive."

"but you and jack are-"

i interfere once more, "i'm my own person. i can make decisions for myself." i tell him.

adrian chuckles, "right."

"when is it?" i question.

"this saturday." he says.

"adrian!" i scold, hitting his arm. "that's in three days! i have to find a dress and-"

"you'll be fine, nova." he reassures me.

i pout, "you couldn't have asked me earlier?"

"i didn't have the balls to." he confesses with a smile playing on his lips. "you have no idea how long it took me to get off of my couch and drag myself here."
